And yeah, the training stores provide is pathetic. The hardware store I worked at handed me a 10 page pamphlet for the department I was going in to. That pamphlet had about 5% useful information. The other 95% came from growing up with a contractor for a father. Which took me from sales associate to department manager in 4 months. As I said, the entry jobs are typically for folks who have no experience at anything. No store training is going to make up for that. Stores cant afford the overhead to train their employees adequately, too much overhead. So these folks get OJT. (on the job training) So any information you get you should check it out before applying it. Of course, that right there is solid advice for any situation.
