Had a Yogurt Storm, need container ideas...

I tried to give my 2 week old chicks yogurt today and it did not go well.
It was literally flying everywhere.

(One would run through it leaving shavings and poo in it and then jump around trying to shake it off their feet and globs of it would land on a nearby bird who would flap her wings to shake it off and rain globs on nearby birds who would repeat the process). There were 26 chicks running around doing this...

It was raining yogurt globs and all the yogurt left in the bowl was filled with shavings and poo absorbing it all.

What kind of container works best for giving chicks yogurt?

Could you mix it up with feed?

I don't know about a container, I always just put it on a small plate. I stir in some chick starter. That seems to make it not as messy.

I had the same problem when I fed mine yogurt...so I havent given it to them since.

I get a chair and sit and laugh my head off at the show. I think its so funny, i do it for entertainment

Hey HeadHen -

I had to giggle reading your story... Because my babies are still in brood boxes, I haven't even tried giving them treats yet... I have enough on my hands cleaning the pine shaving once a day -

As soon as we get them in the coop/run I hope to have loads of fun feeding/watching them with treats.

I'll keep an eye on the post to see what everyone's ideas are.

I use a glass deep dish pie plate. That way they all are able to gather around and they do not walk through it. Also a 13 x 9 glass pan works too as they can not tip it and it leaves enough room for all of them to get around it. I have 17 chickens and I have to use 2 pans for it but it works well for all of them. Trudy

I tried feeding my chicks yogurt when they were about 2 weeks old, too. And it was a mess. I decided to wait until they were in their coop and run. Now I feed it to them in the run, so if it makes a mess - and it does - there's no problem or need with clean up. Anything that gets on the chickens they clean up themselves. And they really really like it.

Someone here feeds their chickens yogurt in half a melon. Looks pretty tasty, tbh.

I got the smallest version of those heavy black rubber feed pan/buckets at the feed store. I think it is made by Little Giant. All of their treats go in that so when they see it coming they know it's food. Also sprinkling some feed on anything new has helped.
