You did the right thing. Food aggression is incredibly bad news in a dog. It takes such a lot of work to put that right. The dog in my Avi has food agression. I never trust him with animals or children! He was a rescue dog - we have a lot of years experience handling damaged dogs - certainly YOU DID THE RIGHT THING! Food aggression is one of the hardest things to turn around in a dog and that aggression would most certainly be turned on you!!!!!! Never mind the poor chickens! YOU need to be safe and YOUR family needs to be safe THIS WAS NOT A SAFE DOG - PLEASE NO GUILT!!!!!!!! HE needs put down as that dog is NOT a family pet!!!!!! It is probably the reason why he was dumped and stray in the first place!
