The pagan Samhain is about death. So is Christianity in its own way. The pagan festival seems to be a celebration of the end of the growing season and the move into winter. Hence the link with the subject of death. The 'evil' and unpleasant side of it is a modern day ploy to sensationalise the thing and simplify it so that people will spend money on ephemeral trivia. I would imagine that the pagan festival was about saving for the winter rather than throwing useful things away.

I just focus on having some fun. Besides who doesn't like FREE candy.

My favorite is the chewy peanut butter with chocolate pieces and of course candy corn and candy pumpkins. Just gotta have some. Yummy!!!

I think that is one of the reasons I had kids was 'cause I got to big to trick or treat but now I can take my kids and of course I have to check the candy first, for safety reasons.

Doesn't hold a candle to what they've done to ... I'll just say December celebrations... since there's so many of them... to think that Christmas trees were once banned in the US it's staggering to think of how much has changed since those days ... it boggles the mind what businesses will do to make a buck... boggles more that we're dinghy enough to fall for it...

Whole thing is WAY overdone... and there's a LOT of pressure... gifting, as well as decorating, visiting, entertaining... etc. SO much less so on Halloween... those who want to decorate, dress up, etc can... those that don't no biggie... you can act like a total moron and no one is surprised... or you can be clever with a nifty costume or pumpkin, etc and get a laugh... some very tastey treats... get the neighborhood together (definitely NOT stressed during December as everyone's going mad just trying to deal with family)...

I love Christmas... family food and gifts l... but for low pressure FUN, Halloween wins hands down.

So some people need a dedicated, approved day to stuff teeth rotting sugar into their kids' mouths? I learn something every day!

When was I in M&S,,,, must of been a good 5 days ago, and they ad the pumpkin pots/baskets for trick or treating and some smaller sweets, no costume stuff yet, we still have all out stuff neatly packed away from 5 years ago, so thats a lot of stuff, my Mum is really big on it, so she goes down to all the big superstores at 12/1 on halloween morning to buy all the reduced stuff, keeps the things she wants then shoves it all on ebay the day after halloween,

My sort of anual thing to do on halloween is to make a ghost video, living in the country I can make realistic looking props, theres an old abandoned church and I have a load of good camera equipment, a bit like most haunted, fake but good :p

Whats everyones eles anual thing they do?
