HALLOWEEN Hatch-a-Long 2016 w/ Hosts, Mike, Sally & BantyChooks

I said that last year, when I only had 2 adult hens laying.

Yeah well, did you know that eggs are great for homemade dog food? I like to make dog food in croc pots, and the eggshells, and eggs are a good source of vitamins, calcium and protien to the rice and meat and veggies. I can *always* find a use for extra eggs!

and i will take all the sebbie eggs LOL

i get 1-3 eggs a day anywhere from the size of a quarter to a normal egg

My RIR produces a nice, extra large, store-sized egg each day for me, for the most part. LOL My cochin keeps laying on them, and then I have to go rescue them from under her. I'm very tempted to give her a silkie baby that hatches and see if she can keep it alive out there.

Awwwwww

so, candled the eggs. at a week, 15 of the original 27 I put in there, are viable and alive. One is iffy, but i'm not sure if it stopped developing or not. So I'll know more in a week when I candle again.

The rest, are looking good!

The single egg left in my other incubator, looks more like an egg should have looked on lock down, so maybe it's just a REALLY late bloomer? I'm hoping it hatches in the next 2-3 days. It's still alive and slowly filling out the rest of the egg.
Good luck!

Forgot to add...I am re-examining the possible insanity of my setting eggs at this time of the year.
It snowed last night and it was 1C in the coop last night.
Maybe winter's coming early? Ugh.

OH dear, maybe that's it for winter? Came early and left?

Quote: Oh yep, I know. He just got 6 eggs a couple 'o minutes ago.
And I have an entire line of hens in addition to the rest where I won't incubate their eggs.
The eggs are incidental for me. It's the genetics I need to procure.

(I'm addicted to hatching. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...don't tell anyone.)

Well... I'm not sure what to do with my cochin's eggs, when she startes laying... besides eat them. I have a black, 2 blues, and 1 white cochins, with a pretty red, mottled roo... if you ever want cochin eggs... and i'm starting a silkie flock. LOL

I set 7 peafowl yesterday and will be setting eggs from my father's chickens he bought from Pure Poultry last year, RIR, WPR, and Rainbows.
