HALLOWEEN Hatch-a-Long 2016 w/ Hosts, Mike, Sally & BantyChooks

I say "we" very loosely. I have the stomach for it but not the eyes anymore. My wife is the egg surgeon. She has been successful 5 out of 6 times. The weak ones seem to be the ones that die 2-3 days after hatch.
I take care of most of the critters day to day, but speciality stuff is where I draw the line. I can give shots and antibiotics and take rectal temps on animals and that fun stuff... but wound care and things like assisted hatching, I leave firmly in the hands of my husband. Same with butchering, or euthanasia

Thanks all for the warm welcome and encouragement!
welcome!!! What did u set?
I started will 12 shipped Cream Legbars, 2 of my leghorn x EE, and 2 production red x EE. I am down to 7 of the CLB 3 were cracked out of the box and 2 more have "exploded" in the incubator. i must have missed the cracks when I candled them. Is it common for eggs to do that? They have only been in the bator for 48 hrs.

the only time I had eggs ready to blow that early was when I tried to hatch eggs I knew were on the older side of viable.

how long did you let them rest before putting them in the incubator?

Usually before they explode they stink and it is caused by bacteria getting into the egg

That's unfortunate good luck with the rest :fl

I let them rest for a little over a day. But they also took 7 days to get to me

thanks USPS! so they were between 10 to 12 days old when I set then.

Got home this morning after being away for the night, and we had 5 out of 5 eggs hatch under the broody!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a slight concern, when I opened the coop, it was a mess! Obviously egg shells and whatnot, but also a broody poop , which momma appeared to have sat in, so her hind end is pretty poopy. I made an attempt to give her a hind end baby wipe bath, but with very little success, Should I be concerned??? Should I let her rest and try to clean her up after a few day days when she isnt so uptight? Should I hold her down and clean her? Or do I just leave her be?

4 chicks look like this and 1 is black. Once they are out from under mom I will try to get better pics!
