HALLOWEEN Hatch-a-Long 2016 w/ Hosts, Mike, Sally & BantyChooks

Soooo the above fell into the bator  10/16 eve Only had one Godzilla egg, so yeah threw her in there too! and these are staring at me on the counter, I swear I can hear them screaming save them!!!! ughhhh why cant I just eat my eggs !!!!
Send them to me send them to me!!! Oh I'm dieing for another try. Still never figured out what exactly happened of the four seramas and 4 other dis eggs 5-6 of them appear to have evacuated the blood out into their shells upon eggtopsying. I can't find a distinct reason for it. Possibly they all pipped into veins? I'm not sure if that's likely I'm sure it's not but if it's the case it's like the worst luck every for them! The other two one serama and one OE the serama had quit much sooner than I thought and was too far gone to open Ick! The olive egger had its yolk still out and all the blood was still in the veins. While I didn't see any distinct black or off color in the yolk it was the OE that was cracked. Sometimes even eggtopsying doesn't give us the answers were hoping for.

thats funny. most articles on them say they don't usually go broody. :p

Ok, I was thinking the same thing. I just hatched some last month, hoping to have great egg layers. I don't need another broody hen. ?? Catching up..maybe more is said here. :p

i was not aware that astralorps were very maternal, you're lucky you even got her to sit on them long enough to hatch them! LOL.... if you want broody hens raising babies, maybe a full size cochin??? Silkies also love raising babies ;o

I'm glad they've been doing well with their babies so far.

She was very dedicated to hatching, up till the end. I think she just got frustrated because the chicks wouldn't leave her alone. But she is also young, so it is her first time. Maybe that plays a part in it.

I think it is very interesting that you have seen so many articles about Australorps not being very broody, because I have only read one article that said that, that was only two days ago, and I was quite surprised when I read it. One of the main reasons we chose Australorps as part of our flock was because in all my research they were listed as one of the most broody.

No it's the oddest thing. I can see how that would cause hemorrhaging but no they weren't jostled at all.
