I candled a couple (I have 27 in there) and saw signs of development in the couple I tested. I had to rotate them, so I did, and will leave the rest alone for now and candle around day 10. I just wanted to make sure the incubator seemed to be doing it's job.
It says it's 100.8 in there, based on 2 of the 3 thermomters, but one is reading 97.8 so I am rotating the eggs in the incubator around to make sure they develop evenly, in case one corner of the incubator IS lower than the other parts. (I followed the recommendations to put rocks in there, and had to add a little water to the rocks to keep the humidity around 40%.)
I haven't used this incubator before, so this is a test batch to tweak everything just right, and figure out the best way to get success.
The shipped eggs werent bad, I got 30, for 45 with shipping on a NPIP show-quality silkie eggs... and I know how to contact her to get more, later. lol
I turn by hand. I don't trust the jostling of the turner's to keep shipped eggs safe. I've seen horror stories of them even breaking eggs in there and then having to take everything out to clean! :O That worried me. hahaVery cool on your hatch rate. Mine keep freaking out when the chicks start producing their own heat... it's really killing me...I have to work, so can't play with temp settings in the middle of the day when these spikes start happening.
Doing the "dry hatch" now, candled my light brahma last night, 6/12 moving well, had 3 blood rings and 2 clear, one was cracked on arrival... very good compared to previous shipments outside my first attempt on Marans... staying at a steady 25% humidity on those, and somehow my yellow Baylor has went up from 27% to 39... oh ya, I had to wash those eggs(covered in dirt that wouldn't brush off).
Lock down on the Brahma is Monday... debating leaving in the turner till pip... (trying to find what would work best for me) maybe I can do half in half out. Idk, we'll see.

I started off with 30, but 2 were cracked beyond repair upon arrival, 2 had tiny cracks I tried to repair via liquid bandage, but one didn't make it. The other is one of the ones I candled, and it's got veins starting, so crossing my fingers it stays viable. The air cells looked pretty okay for shipped eggs, so we'll see what kind of fertility/growth we get over the next week or so, and how many I lose to blood rings. I've got them upright in containers, to try to optimize success... and I check the temp in there everytime I turn them and the humidity.
So far, it's been pretty consistent around 35-40% humidity, and 100.8
I only turn my egg 3-5x a day by hand. Average is 3 so far. I don't like messing with them too much. I just spin/tilt and make sure they spend equal amounts of time overnight on different sides. (I mark them with X and O so I can remember!)I've been keeping my shipped eggs in the cartons I posted yesterday, and just tip back n forth for the first 7-10 days, they do great there, then after they get moved is when stuff starts happening. These Brahma have been on the carton till day 12ish I think it was, and moved to the turning incubator by themselves since then. I noticed if I fill that bator, it tends to have a harder time turning to where they kinda flop over instead... I could do the Brisnea way, tilt whole thing, let turner just hold them... down side is I can't turn every two hours, might be able to get 3xs a day if lucky.
CONGRATS!!!!
