Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

after hatching starts you will notice your humidity will spike due to the wetness of the eggs and chicks then open a little more of your plug so they get more air plus humidity wont get to high

I dont let my humidity go over 70 and try to keep it around 66 at most and it has worked great for me dont have extremely wet chicks to drown plus wet enough to be able to turn in egg to zip

Okay I'm a moron. He did pip. He's been pipped in the middle back side of the egg. The humidity dropped (not sure how, I've been hovering) and he's shrink wrapped. I wrapped him in a damp cloth and pulled a little shell aside to check the membrane. Totally white, totally stiff. Oh sigh... At least he's sounding less weak. I knew 40 hours of screaming his head off wasn't right.

wait to see if it is still going up if not add more hot water. Have you been having your heat come on light I have if so that is the same prob I have my heat is dropping humidity in the house so lowering the bator, I just keep adding hot water because the steam from it brings the humidity up faster.

Ok, I have 2 OE banties that are pipping, 1 has just cracked the egg & the other has a tiny hole in it. I saw a silkie egg rock a bit but now nothing! OMG....how long does this all take?

Well, he's out. I did get one. I checked one other egg and it was obvious the chick died when I lost power. I'm afraid I know what's in the rest of my eggs. Sigh.

But this one is hollering up a storm, now that he can move. I could NOT believe the CRAMMED he was in there, couldn't even move his beak side to side. No wonder he was yelling.

Well, I said I'd be grateful for one and I am. Would I like a couple more to start to wobble tomorrow? Yes. But, I'll take this. Pics of the lil barred sucker tomorrow. He's had a rough day.

I think I faired better than you all with the bators.
My eggs were outside and I could not hover over them.

how stressful it must be!

Yeah, me too. Mine are outside under a game hen, who is sitting fast!!! She only gets off the nest about every 2-3 days, and I like to keep my skin intact, so I haven't gotten to peek in a while!! But she is not due until the first technically, so I still have some waiting to do. I have 3 of her eggs inside that got kicked out of the nest, but nothing from them yet. But they did look to be a bit behind.

Quail_Antwerp--- I have not hatched a chick yet with my humidity over 55%. I cannot get mine to stay up high, and I have had no problems. Yours should be fine. And my bator is an LG, and it says to remove BOTH the plugs once you are ready to hatch...after day 18

<edit> I don't remember who said about putting hot water in to raise the humidity. Anyway, you need to be careful doing this, as it will also bring the temps up. Put a piece of wet folded paper towel in there, and it will bring it up. I tried the washcloth too, but the paper towel seems to work better for me.
