Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

HI all. Looks like I get to join this club too. I started 12 silkie eggs on 10-8, and another 14 silkie eggs on 10-10.
I candled them all last nite and looks like I have 2 for sure out of the original 12, and a couple that I couldn't tell. Out of the second set of 14, I have 8 for sure, and 3 that look like they may just be blood rings. The rest just look clear, but the shells seem rather thick and hard to see.

This will be my first try at hatching eggs. LOL, it's my first try at chickens!

Hey ya'll!

I candled tonight, day 10 for me. Out of 16 eggs, it looks like I've got 14 good ones. These are my barred rocks.

I'm on day 5 for my penedesencas. I wasn't even going to seriously attempt to look at those yet. Shells are too dark. I did look at 3 though. 2 looked clear (scrambled I guess) and 1 looked like the yolk was intact. I'll probably wait until day 10 to look at these.

about half way through incubation you will get a temp hike usually about 2 to 3 degrees. It is from the chicks in the eggs creating heat. All you have to do is readjust your thermostat to get it back right

Candled... Day 14 Took out four more and opened them. Two scrambled and two with just a yolk, no fertile spot that I saw but that's easy to miss. No progress at all. Guess I am learning to "see". I've eight that look good, and six that are questionable. None of the turkeys look right.

I'm planning on candling again tonight...it'll be day 10 so hopefully it will be a little more clear as to who's doing what!

Since I have the bator open to check my Bo's...should I check the others that are on day 3 + 9hrs? Just to see what's going on?

I love candling... or should I say chickie ultrasounds!

This will be my hubby's first time getting to see the eggs candled... I can't wait to share it with him

Day 10 and oh my!!! our chickies are growing so fast!
I just realized that the day they hatch is the only day of the week that I work!! UGHH!!!

I can only hope for them to either be one day early or one day late.

once they hatch and dry, should I move them and momma to some place away from everyone else? I have an RIR cockerel that worries me about the chicks.

Yes - put momma and babies in their own pen.

I'm fighting the urge to candle again!!! Must wait....
