Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

I'm bummed....

I started with 16 BO's from Hinkjc, my son got 2 of them, 4 were blanks and now my first quitter. (Maybe from my temp drop yesterday??) I'm on day 10 and am left with 9 of these little swimmers.

I have 4 more at about day 3 1/2 and I saw absolutely nothing in those. UPS really tossed them around good though...out of 8, 4 had been broken or cracked so I don't know if any of those will make it.

So my bator's down to 13 now. Is there any point candling on day 14? Or should I just wait untill day 18 when I switch them over to the hatcher?

I am bummed too. I can only verify 3 swimmers out of 12 shipped. 5 I can only see yolk shadow. The shells are just too thick. I can't believe only a few are good

First hatch...everything has remained steady....maybe the PO was just too rough. I have a few blood rings.

I will be getting more eggies though...shipped next Monday and even more a week later

try try again? I think I am going to the feed store and buy an incubator for the new eggies.

I will NEED a hatcher...right???

Out of my 14 Silkie eggs, I believe that 9 are good (swimmers), 1 blood ring, another possible blood ring & 3 looked like just water filled eggs.

The Bantie eggs 1 blood ring, 3 swimmers, 2 veins & 1 to early to tell yet. I have a few that I thru in as I found them....lol Not that I need anymore Banties!

none of the turkey eggs look good, i held on to two just in case but i don't think so, so more eggs after the 1st. of the other eggs maybe eight look good.
here's hoping. lord the computers death by caps key is going to drive me nuts...

Then again it's still working, right? sigh. it's almost failed to boot a few times, talk about a heart attack.

Dud eggs and dud lap tops. Buy more eggs, use the desktop and find silver linings...

Sorry about the turkey eggs. Why would they all be bad?

I have a few that definately need tossing but when is a good time to do that? at day 14? I don't want them exploding....like the water filled ones, they can go now can't they I know there is nothing in there.

I thought they arrived in good condition, no visible cracks but the three i've already opened the yolks were shattered/scrambled. i figure it was the handling in transit. i'll try again next month, with eggs from a nearer source. And what i think are also better birds.

Two of them had free moving aircells, since this is my first hatch, i hadn't realized that that is a pretty dead give away to a bad egg.

i kept a couple in the bator with shadows, probably just yolk shadows but the shells are thick enough i'm being cautious.

live learn and try again... i'm grimly determined to get this right and learn to do this well. i'd like to get a chick out of all this but if i don't, i've seen plenty of people here stick to it and finally get it going in the right direction. one thing i am not is a quitter. it's a skill i want and need.

i've got fuzzies to play with in the interim. The timing of this replacement group couldn't have been better.

i'm glad you all are here. Doing this alone would be a good deal harder.

I agree! 100% it is better to go thru all this with others & the learning process is great! I hope things go well for all of us. & if not, well then we just keep trying & sooner or later we will get it!
