So I ... I mean my husband broke the 7 eggs and 5 of those didn't even look fertile! The other 2 had blood rings and didn't progress enough to even see a chick... so out of 12 I only have 5 left

I am getting more next week though

I just realized my next batch will hatch on the 31 or 1, so I'm joining in. I have 14 eggs in the bator, 5 of my own mutts, four EE and five that I thought were supposed to be marans, but the color seems off--they were shipped to me for free, so I'll deal either way.

When I candled on Sunday the flashlight was too dim to see more than a shadow, but I figured that was good news, so I'll just hang around until next weekend and try again. I also have 14 bobwhite and 11 coturnix quail that should I'll stop turning a few days after the chickies finish hatching. Thankfully I have a second bator, so staggering hatches hasn't been a problem at all.

It's good to hear everyone else's hatches are going so well!

Bleagh, cracked three more eggs tonight. Nothing but goo, scrambled. Sigh. But!!!! Good news, one of the questionable turkey eggs is GOOD! There's a spud in there!

So far, none of the ones I've pulled ever developed at all. they're getting really big, some of these are before the 31st, most, the turkey is my Spook. not bad for a white turkey. here's hoping... the blue eggs, i just can't tell, so they stayed. The barred rocks are now the ones that are mostly chick. i still have a few in there that are ???? One I think is a blood ring and yolk shadow but i'm not sure! it doesn't stink or leak, it stays. There's one stupid egg, it's almost impossible to tell which end is which. It's the only one not in a carton.

Turned on the heat this week due to the cold snap and chicks. So I finally have dinked with the humidity a little, not a lot. hopefully enough to compensate for the shift. I had about a half a degree temp shift upward again. The chicks in the eggs are pretty huge now, I'm not too surprised.

Can't wait to make a homemade one. Tired of how shallow it is and cramped.

Wow, this is only getting harder...

I thought they would stink too! I made Patrick open them as I stayed and watched ... nothing...only 2 even had anything but yolk or scrambled and no chick at all. Thankfully!

When I opened mine, they didn't stink either. 3 were definitely scrambled and the last was a quitter with bloodring. If you look at that chart (I think it was Birth of a Chicken?) it would have been the 4th r so picture. It started developing and then for some reason died. Maybe my temp drops?

Chere, I'm about to crank up the heat too. We are around 55 degrees in here come morning....Looks like it's time to order more oil!

Luck with the bator Kelley! It's 38 here this morning. I find it weird that the bad eggs don't stink... even though they've been heated for two weeks. Really strange.

I have to use this bator for awhile, things are tight... And the addiction, tempting. But I'm going to learn to use this dumb little thing effectively. Once it's paid for itself a few times, I'll move on.

I can see why hatching takes on a life and addiction of it's own. boy am I hooked. Those dark wiggling shadows call to you like magnets to your soul.

Prayers for good hatches and good luck.

Chere
