Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

well I will tell you urban I dont know I havent ever had one pip at both ends. That is a new one for me. I know the prob though my hatched ones wont stay off the top of the ones trying to hatch

My eggs are due to hatch on Halloween (tomorrow). Which was totally inadverdent, btw.

Anyway, last night I went to check the humidity and I saw three pips!! Holy crap! Was not expecting that on day 19! Went back a little later to find one (a pip I hadn't seen before) almost out of the egg and I got to watch it hatch!! That was so fast...faster than I'd ever seen. This morning there are 7 more pips (well three are big holes by now).

I have a question though....when you have some hatch early, do they normally all hatch early? Like from the same bactch? I'm just wondering if the ones that hatch today will be it or not. Of course I won't turn off the incubator until sunday or mondy, just in case, but I am wondering.

These are all Ameraucanas. White and red. The first preemie was a red one.

How long can they stay in there with no food?

Mine too!

I almost wonder if that second pip was actually made by #2 chick. She keeps "helping" the pippers. She hears the peeping and wobbles over to that egg. I think she's lonely.

My new babies . . .I started with 8 eggs . . .one wasn't fertile . . one stopped developing after maybe a week or so . . .I have one that is hatched but still questionable . . .I really don't know if he/she is going to make it . . .something just doesn't look right about him/her. . .anyway here's pics of my first hatch

My little one keeps pecking at the pips too. And bowling with all of the eggs.

Everytime we check on them, my toddler runs to the fridge to try to get more eggs. He wants me to put them in the incubator. lol

Congratulations everyone on their pips & new babies!

I can't stand it! The ones I want to do something are doing NOTHING!

Ok, I will calm down. I will go & get my camera & download my new baby pics so you all can see them.

Also, they do not seem to be drying off very well with the high humidity. I am warming the brooder right now....should I move them there as soon as the temp is right? I think they will dry faster under those lights....plus the little buggers are slamming my silkie eggs all over the place!

What do you think????

I usually have one that hatches a day before everyone else, then one that hatches a day after everyone, but the majority of them hatch around the same time.

They can survive without food or water for up to 72 hours, but it is best to remove them after 24, as they can dehydrate quickly in the incubator.
