YaY for new chickies!

I had to put band aids on the little guys feet, his toes were curled. He or she is the one that I had the L shaped air sack in the egg & the chick is much smaller than the rest but so darned cute! So ity bity!

Also one of the silkies...I am not sure what color it is since this is my 1st time & all (maybe cuckoo?) , the chick ended up with one white toe & on the other foot a few white toe nails. Just my luck! But the color is beautiful & the baby is darling!

Once I get time I will post some pics. The weather has been so nice here that I am taking advantage of it & getting more things done outside.

I am waiting on 3 more in the bator. After I had to turn the humidity up for my main hatch I hope it hasn't ruined them.

I'd say there is plenty of reason to keep hoping, you could still get some hatches, so give it another couple of days.

I now have 5 babies out--3 EE, and 2 Marans, no more pips, but there are three eggs left so I'll let 'em sit a couple more days and see what happens. I have quail to take off the turner on Tuesday night, and I'd like to have this hatch totally out of the way by then. I still have one of my own eggs and two more marans eggs that haven't piped but looked good on my last candle.

Well, last night before bed I had a second Blue Cochin hatch out, and a standard Salmon Faverolle, and this morning woke up to my only Silver Phoenix had hatched and another blue silkie chick!

So, don't remember what my last running numbers on chicks were, I think 11? but I am now up by 4, for a total of 15 new chicks! and more eggs still in the 'bator....should be hatching anytime....


I lost a Mille. It pipped while we were sleeping, but was too big to break out of it's shell I guess, because it had a nice sized hole, and it's beak was sticking out, but it was already dead. It was a perfect looking little Mille, too!

This is the first time I have tried to hatch Milles. Well, really, this is only my second hatch ever, and my first was just last week, so I am still a newbie to hatching!

I FINALLY HAVE A CHICK!!!

I woke up this morning to a very tiny pip, and when I came back in from feeding, there was a cute little black chick peeping it's head off in there!! I still have 2 eggs left, plus the hen has 10, so we'll see how it goes! The hen hadn't hatched any yet as of this morning, but she is not setting tight on the eggs, and my dad says they do that when they start to hatch. Kind of like just squatting over them, but giving them room to get out. I guess mama will get the one(s) that hatch in the bator as well! They were her eggs to beogin with, she just had so many they wouldn't stay in the nest.

I woke to another chick this morning, so I have 6 total, three each EE and whatever the other chicks are. ery cute. I still have two more eggs in the bator, so we'll see if anything else pops out before I get off work tomorrow.
