Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

I had silkie number 8 hatch this morning, then I wasn't home this afternoon (I was off picking up more chicks

) and when I got home just a few minutes ago, Silkie number 9 hatched out! Only 2 more silkie eggs are in the 'bator.

I also have a Salmon Faverolle pipped...waiting on him to hatch out already LOL

I just candled and the last two eggs were quitters, very late, maybe day 17 or 18. So six is my total--considering three of the twelve shipped eggs were totally smashed, 6 out of the remaining 9 is good odds. Cute little babies, too! I'll have to take some pics and post them tomorrow.

Final tally is 12 little chickies. Set 17 in the bator, 3 were infertile, 1 died sometime late in the game, and 1 pipped and dh helped it after 24 hours. It was looking fine but then died overnight.

Here's a pic of my favorite ones:

UPDATE!!! It survived and is doing GREAT!! I don't know how, that thing was near death after 12 hours. But it is a survivor. When we first put it in the brooder it laid there for a while before trying to get up. Then when it tried to walk it's toes were all curled under on both feet. I thought it'd surely not survive another day. But it did, and now it's feet are normal! The only way we can tell it apart from the others is that it is a little bit smaller.

Well my total is one. The other 2 that were in the incubator quit very late. The hen is still setting on her eggs. I checked them this morning, and 4 were no good. I thought I heard one peeping in the shell, but I have baby chickens all over the place, so I'm not sure. I think I will give her the one chick that hatched inside tonight, and take the other eggs and see what's going on. They should have hatched a few days ago, but it has been cold here, and she is not setting in the most ideal of places. One of the eggs that I checked was cold, and it was underneath her. Next time I think I will move her into a proper nest. Will update if anything changes.

I am still waiting on the last 3 that sould start pipping soon I hope. I have to be gone on Wed. all day & that will probably be the day they pick!

My other ones are doing fine. The little one that had the L shaped air sack actually looks like a premmie. He is half the size of the others but is doing great. I know I haven't posted any picks & I do need help identyfing the silkie colors since I have never had silkies. But the weather has been so nice here that I HAVE to get things done outside first.

I am thinking the colors I was supposed to get, I didn't get.....

I will try to get some up close ones in the next day or so.

Good luck to all that are still waiting for more babies!

I decided to steal my OEG's eggs to see if they were good. I gave her some dummy eggs to keep her on the nest, in case some of the others hatched, so I can give her all the chicks at once. ONE HAS A PIP!!!

These eggs are at least a day and a half late, but there is one huge pip, and the others look good as well, just a bit delayed!! So I should have more than my lonely little one to give back to her!!
