Halloween Lockdown Day, Anyone Else?

I went ahead and helped Ducky #1 make a bigger hole. When I did I realized his beak is not where the hole is. He has moved and then stopped making progress. The outer membrane is super dry, like leather, but the membrane immediately under that seems pretty moist. He does not appear to be stuck, so I don't get it. One little pip in over 48 hours is not enough progress for me. Man, he sure looks cute in there. I just peeled enough to expose his beak. He's not going to be able to get out on his own. I've seen enough hatches to know that.

Ducky #2 is pecking about once a minute. If that. He has not made any pips at all. Again, it's been over 48 hours. I kinda feel darned if I do, darned if I don't. I don't know the success rate of making a hole for them. I'm afraid of his oxygen and of course him just becoming too exhausted. I'm trying to make a decision of what to do. I think he will be dead by tmw.

The other 6 have not pipped at all. I have given up on them. I wonder what went wrong here. So frustrated and I have that, "What did I do wrong" feeling right now. I bumped the humidity up to 70 to hopefully help a little with the outer membrane issue. Not that it matters now.

Ok, I'm done. Thanks for letting me vent. I told all this to my husband but he's really into this Patrick Swayze movie right now and is giving me the standard man answers. "uh huh... yeah, uh huh.. okay.."

Sorry to hear about your eggs not hatching. As for any that pip with no more progress, I will never leave one more than 12-24 hours that have pipped and not zipped. I did that before and lost a lavender silkie because of it.

That's the longest I've ever let one go, but since it was a duck, I waited a little longer. I will not wait that long again EVER. There was no way this duck was getting out. I went ahead and "zipped" it for him, so all he has to do is push his little booty out. He is a strong little guy and anxious to get out. So hopefully he will in a few.

As far as the 2nd egg with no pip, If it hasn't pipped by morning I will be interfering. I can hear it becoming more active in there so I'll give it overnight. Which is actually like 5 more hours. HA! Hopefully by then I'll have a pic to post!

With a little help from me..... (yes, I helped it. Because if I hadn't it would be DEAD. Why? Because it was stuck to the outer membrane.. really badly stuck.)

I'd like to introduce.... (drum roll please)...

Beeker!

Congrats Quacker! Well done.

I wouldn't have waited any longer either. I got up this morning thinking, man, if that one hasn't hatched yet, I'll be doing surgery..that's what I call it when I have to help them out. Well, it was out..oh, I mean, she was out...and guess what color??? What color have I been saying that I really want? Lavender! Please be a girl!!! The other one is still pipped the same, but it's early in the day. The other four~I'm not seeing anything yet, but I will be checking things out, they should be at least pipped, so, hopefully I will be saving some. It's kind of hard on some of them when they are helped out, I usually give them electrolytes for a while after they are dried off and about a half a day old.
How is your little Beeker doing now? You have to post a picture when Beeker is dry and fluffy...I love baby ducks!
Had to chuckle when you said what you husband was doing, and how he was reacting when you were trying to tell him what you were going through. My husband is the same way. He has come a long way though, he will stick an, oh really? ...in there once in a while now.

Or, like this morning, I told him the one hatched, and I asked him, what color did I say I wanted? And he actually says and asks, a Lavender, you got a lavender? Yep.

Oh, I'll post pictures later. Maybe I'll have more.

Yay! You got a lavender! That's awesome! I hope it's a girl too! Little Beeker was a spitfire last night but finally settled down and has been sleeping/peeping on and off for about 3 hours. I hope this little one makes it. I'm not considering it out of the woods yet just because of the situation.

And my husband was really interested for about 10 minutes. Then he found the movie RoadHouse on TV. When I took him pictures at 2am (he was in bed and I woke him up) he was like, "That's awesome! How many do you have?" I'm like, "one... duh."
And then this morning he says, "He's a cute little thing, but you know this set up isn't going to work." (Meaning with my 1 and 3 yr olds, I'm going to have to have him higher off the ground.) And he's right! But still, men have a way of inserting logic at the wrong times. Yes, I know I'll have to move it onto the table.. Good grief.

I'm getting to wake up my 8 yr old and tell her the good news! She didn't want me to do anything until she woke up. She really wanted to "help". (She wants to be a vet. That's MY girl right thar.)
