Halloween/Thanksgiving Hatch-a-Long 2019

..... Well I'm definitely late for the hatch long I wish I had a broody hen I have Leghorn hatton's and I just acquired a buff orpington rooster who is gorgeous and now I'm thinking of making my own cross breed anyone have experience with this??? So far no hits on my thread
you’re not late.....thanksgiving hatch still has a few days until set! my only chicken cross breeding experience is buff orpington cockerel with silkie pullets! made some beautiful babies.....so i’m sure your plans would go well too!

Especially cause I’m thinking this chicken one is gonna be way up on the hill in the front away from the house and other chickens and that’s gonna be a pain to trudge up to in deep snow haha

I should probably make it closer to the house but I don’t want it near the other chickens and don’t want roosters near the neighbors. :lau

*note to self* when winter is coming and you only want to have a small hatch......don’t set so many of your own eggs!!!! over 40 in the brooder and they are still hatching!!! :th

Great minds think alike lol I literally just decided not to try quail right now cause so don’t wanna take care of them in the winter :lau

my main issue is that I’m pretty much at max capacity in the aviary....my room isn’t built yet and I can’t throw them outside at 2-3 weeks in winter so grow-out space for 50 is going to be an issue......i’m going to have to get creative!!!

but they are soooo darned cute!!!:love:love

That makes sense!!

Tbh I don’t even have space or a plan for these chicken chicks.

I’ve got a month to figure it out though but still. Probably should have beforehand. :lau

My brooder is inside

I don’t really have a permanent one haha

My first chicks I used a kiddie pool inside for 3 weeks then they were in the garage in a bigger pen till 7 and the last batch I had in a plastic tote inside for a week then outside in the coop (separated from the big ones) but I took the divider down after integration and I don’t really want to mix the new ones in so I gotta figure something out.

I don’t think I want to brood inside again. It’s so messy and such a pain. :lau

I might maybe set something up in the garage again or next to it until they’re off heat and then move them to a permanent area away from any neighbors haha
