Halloween/Thanksgiving Hatch-a-Long 2019

What do you use for a brooder?
it’s just a black tote from RK....i keep it next to me in the living room....good for 1-2 weeks before i move them to a small animal cage in the shed. DH has plans to build me a bigger brooder as part of my indoor bird room in the shed

That is awesome!! That’s a great number!! And they are so cute to watch!! :love
Now to collect some Cochin eggs and maybe a few more RSL to see if I can get more white ones. It's odd I got 4 yellows which I wasn't supposed to get and I know 100% sure they're Delaware/BJG. All my chicks were supposed to be black.

I already picked 1 I want to keep, it's yellow with black spots on its back and I have my eye on a black one with white on its chest.

You really have the hatching bug now, huh!? :lau

Oh wow that’s really odd!! Maybe some of them took after the Delaware parent??

And awwww they sound cute!! Pictures!?

Eh, I take those doomsday warnings with a grain of salt.
What? Do you want to live forever?

Party hard, live fast and leave a good looking corpse. We still got time.

We all joke about it, but responsible drinking is a very serious matter. If you don't have a taste for alcohol, why cultivate one? Think of all the money ... and embarrassment ... you'll save! And I can tell you from first-hand experience that it's often highly entertaining to be the designated driver. After all, when you hear the words, "Here, hold my beer," followed by, "Watch this," SOMEONE has to be sober enough to hold the camera. And it's much, much safer to be the director than the lead actor!
Yes, but everyone asks you, "I did what last night?!?" Much easier to just show the pictures.

(with the blackmail demands...)

Friends will bail you out.
Good friends are sitting next to you saying, wanna do it again tomorrow?

So 9 might be a no go (5 doing nothing and 4 dead), but 21 made it out of 30... Is that good?

I had 10 infertile in the beginning so they were instantly take out after about a week
Shipped eggs, we say good hatch above 50%.
Home collected eggs are usually higher depending on everything. Fertility, rooster favorites, genetics, weather and all that.

I'll have to take pics tomorrow of the ones I'm hoping to keep, I'll make my husband hold them while I take the pic. They're super fast and wiggly.

I think I'm going to wait to see if I want the black one after the Cochins/BJG cross hatch because I might want one of those instead. I'm not going to keep chickens every time I hatch, when I move I might though

Mine are home collected. The Delaware is my roosters fave and 100% of her eggs hatched. The RSL eggs had lots of quitters or ones that died while zipping, so I probably won't hatch from them again.

The yellow chick I want to keep is from the RSL cross. It's just so plump and my favorite. I named her Violet after the girl on Willy Wonka that gets huge and they roll her out.
