Halloween/Thanksgiving Hatch-a-Long 2019

Do it!! That’s what I’m considering doing with mine depending on how many hatch :lau

Maybe even keeping a roo or two and adding him to either my current flock or the new girls :lau
Depends on what they look like when they hit 20 weeks. I like color patterns and different sizes. Hopefully my BR eggs are fertile this time.

Do any of you guys worry about disease coming in from bought eggs? Does that even happen?
I'd like to add some welsummers and a few white egger to my flock, as well as adding some new blood.
I want my broodies to hatch and raise them. I just don't have time to incubate and raise them myself.
I know some people I can get eggs from but I'm not impressed with their setup.

Salmonella is inherent through eggs I believe.

I have had very good luck hatching chicken eggs shipped from Meyer hatchery.....there are other reputable hatcheries closer to you. Since you are looking for specific breeds, that would be my recommendation.
This is the welsummer cockerel that I hatched last Halloween

Do you have any issues putting the hatched birds with vaccinated birds? Or are yours not vaccinated? That’s what I’m worried about. Both my batches were vaccinated as chicks so I’m worried about adding unvaccinated birds since I’ve read vaccinated birds can carry a much more deadly strain of Mareks (since the birds don’t die off so it can develop more) and kill unvaccinated birds in close proximity to them?? Or does that not apply to hatching eggs and hatched chicks?? I know some people have broodies raise them and they’re just fine? So maybe that doesn’t apply? Or maybe their birds are not vaccinated? The chicks I hatch won’t have any sort of immunity right? Can I buy the vaccine? Or I may just have to keep them totally separate. Planning on doing that anyway.
