Halloween/Thanksgiving Hatch-a-Long 2019

Do any of you guys worry about disease coming in from bought eggs? Does that even happen?
I'd like to add some welsummers and a few white egger to my flock, as well as adding some new blood.
I want my broodies to hatch and raise them. I just don't have time to incubate and raise them myself.
I know some people I can get eggs from but I'm not impressed with their setup.
Don't get them then.
There are diseases transmitted through eggs too.

You guys are making me paranoid... Should I not hatch that other farms eggs with mine. My chicks are so damn cute!!!! I don't want anything happening to them!

 Hahahaha I should get blinders to hide from this thread till mine are big and grown :gig
I don't worry about it much. As long as the parent stock looks healthy, or, if it's a hatchery, has a good reputation, I'll order the eggs.

Sorry.

Mareks is only thru dander im pretty sure.

I dont have any vaccination experience sorry guys.

That’s good to know, thanks.

And it’s okay, I just remember reading an article about it a while ago but it may have been wrong. It wasn’t on BYC, I forget where I read it.

Don't get them then.

Now you’re making me paranoid. :lau

I have mixed vaccinated hatchery (TSC) chicks in with my hatched- at -home-never-vaccinated chicks . So far I haven't had a problem.
I'm probably going to bring in some local eggs for my broodies next spring. Crossed fingers.

This is good to know!! Thank you!!

Although... are all hatchery chicks vaccinated? Mine I had to choose the option at check out and pay extra for it but maybe that’s cause it was online?

Sorry if this is a stupid question haha

I found another source that looks pretty nice. They just dont have welsummers. They have bcm though.

I think Meyer has welsummer hatching eggs as well as chicks but I think the eggs are sold out atm. They’re sold out of everything except the assortment.

I may try chick adoption this year too....sneak some hatchery welsummers into a nest. Lol

Good idea!! Lol do it.

Thanks. This is good to know. This is what I want to do but it’s just I had read an article that said they would for sure die if mixed.
