Halloween/Thanksgiving Hatch-a-Long 2019

My father and I are very close. We do a lot together, I don't think I could ever live too far from them.

We don't have a full farm yet. We have 4 dogs, 10 chickens (layer flock), 5 ducks (layer flock), and 21 meat chickens. We are adding quail, turkeys, and meat ducks in the spring time. I won't be adding any bigger animals until two years from now. I want to get my birds going first.

That is amazing. :love

And oh wow that’s awesome!! I just have the chickens and one cat right now. And 4 goldfish. That I desperately need to build a pond or buy a bigger tank for.

I would love all those animals. :love

And we have a feral barn cat that somehow I magically turned into a house cat. Now he won't go outside :lau he loves me too much

:lau that is amazing!!

Funny story...

We were in Walmart yesterday and we heard peeping from a kids toy or from something and both my husband and I looked around thinking it was our baby chicks till we realized, they weren't at Walmart :gigAny peep noises we think it's them even when we aren't home!

:lau :gig :lau

OMG!!!

Dying to see photos! I've seen lav orp over leghorns. Beautiful!
Well I just put the rooster in with the girls yesterday I think it'll take a couple of weeks before all the eggs are completely fertile in my opinion
...no???......plussss... I have arrived at the 27th of this month I ough eparate cages to feed during the winter I brought the rabbit hutches closer to the house but the chicken coop is still a couple acres away :th:he
...... But that still doesn't kill the curiosity I really think an orpington Leghorn mix would be pretty cool and a good egg layer

I want some white turkeys, maybe in the spring. :drool
I am not a good builder, but I am an imaginative one. Things don't always work out like I have them in my head, but they're usually functional.

:yaI like!!! What breed are they, they're nicely colored! :love
daddy was buff orpington and momma was black silkie....

Growing up I never had really full blooded chickens..... My grandmother lived with us on the farm and we basically got what we had.... Every once in awhile we would buy a new stock from a feed store........ But I love my leghorns I'm not too keen on buff orpingtons in the past I've had them they are great animals but they eat so much and by the first year they go down to Lsying two maybe three eggs a week.... Which is fine....but I'm really dying to make a buff orpington cross with my rooster and leghorns that way I won't need to go replenish them at the feed store.....just wish somebody had this cross I'm really curious about what they would look like

Try googling Isabella leghorn. The color won't be the same of course (lav. Orp over leghorn) but the body shape and personality should be similar.

Really really cute. Was the silkie A standard?
no silkies were bantam....wonder twins ended up medium size.....these are the 3 silkies.....i don’t have any pics of the buff orpington as I was really hoping daddy would have been the welsummer.....all my girls were rehomed with friends/family and all boys were sent to freezer camp so i currently have zero chickens

Thank you so so so so so so so so much for answering me.....another reason why I'm kind of nervous as I bought an incubator seven years ago haven't used it since it's one of those still are incubators you have to turn the egg yourself..... At that point in time I was working 12-hour days I thought I was doing the right thing but only two hatched..... You have to keep the humidity perfect etc etc... But since I'm home because of surgery I think I'll be able to take better care....I also have a pregnant bunny dur Thanksgiving day!!!!

Thanks!!!
According to my research and genetics which I know very little of.... I'm imagining a hen that would be very lightly buff colored and whitish towards the end..... Not sure what color the eggs will be , if the father is a brown egg layer... Maybe some of these byc experts can help me out???. .... Anywho I would like to join the Thanksgiving hatch along seeing that my rabbit is also do on Thanksgiving but I might be a few days late waiting for the eggs to get fertile lol:lol::lol::lol::barnie:barnie:barnie:barnie:celebrate:caf
