Halloween/Thanksgiving Hatch-a-Long 2019

with new fish ponds, most start with feeder goldfish to cycle it because they are inexpensive. They grow pretty fast. trying to purchase koi or goldfish large enough to not risk getting eaten can get pretty expensive.......I don’t have ducks, but 3 of my original goldfish have survived 2 pond reworks and 1 winter outside!
I think that the pond will be about 3 ft deep if we can make it that deep. We are using a pond liner from Lowe's and building a frame for it so that we can take it down and bring it with us when we move.

That’s awesome!! Sounds like a good strategy!! They also sell pond liner online too that’s might work

We used to have one of those pre-formed pond liners when we lived in Maine and we had goldfish in there for the longest time until these cats came and ate them :barnie

We loved having the preformed liners and we also made a waterfall. My father and I built two big ponds for my mother for mother's Day when I was about 10 years old I think. I have always loved ponds but in Virginia they have poisonous snakes and I'm afraid of them getting into the pond. We already had a copperhead come after our chickens and tried getting my husband too. He said that was the only time he feared something!

Can anyone believe I only candled 1 egg for my november hatch :gig it was junk but I tried it anyways then I said, it was only $1.60 for that egg and chucked it. No point in letting it ruin my entire hatch this early on. I'll stick with my fertile eggs until I want to change things up.

My chicks that are a mocha and black color are staying that way because their new feathers are brown and black :celebrateim so excited to see what they truly look like in a few weeks!

Wondering how long I will have to keep them inside because I'm waiting until they are big enough to go into a chain link fenced in area. Right now they would just go right through it.

I think that they add an extra one just in case one brakes during shipping, but I usually think that none break so you just get an extra chick.

I can't wait to see what your experiences, you should do a thread for just your hatch :lau you're going to be crazy like I was. I annoyed 99.9% of the people on BYC with my questions.
So excited myself. Can't wait to start this new adventure. How many hatches have you done?
