Hamburg thread!

He is really good! Especially considering that he came from a hatchery. Nice clean tail on him! PRETTY! (So often the tails get smutty)

I have my first hamburgs this year, and I am kinda hoping that mine end up with a little smaller comb than yours, but, we shall see.

I got mine from Cackle. They look pretty good so far, but still too young to tell much.

I got mine from Cackle. They look pretty good so far, but still too young to tell much.

The tail feathers on our cockerel are smutty. I'm hoping the clean up a bit after he molts, but I'm not holding my breath. I love him, but he's nowhere near show quality.

Unfortunately the little Hamburg I was asking about died shortly after of Coccidiosis along with one of our silver laced wyandotte chicks. No one really showed symptoms until it was too late. In fact only 4 chicks out of 13 showed any symptoms at all, two of them died, two of them recovered. The larger Hamburg (Hammy) never showed symptoms. We kept her with the other two obviously sick ones (another Silver laced and a Maran) in order to monitor her more closely since the first one to die was her BFF.

On a positive note, Hammy made friends with the two sick chicks and it made her transition into their flock so much easier after recovery. The three of them hang out together and they are Hammy's refuge if someone picks on her.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Glad that there were so many survivors!

So, I have a question. I'm thinking about putting my house rooster, Finn (who I thought was a Golden Spangled Hamburg) outside. In the future, I'd like to breed him to see what his babies would look like. Would I breed him with a Golden Spangled Hamburg female, since it would look like him?
