I even sewed on a few little pearl beads around the center.

I did the candle wicking first, then put the backing on with batting, quilted through. Then I cut the back open, and put some stuffing into that center circle, hand sewed it back closed and put a touch of no-fray stuff on it.
Here is the back

I do a lot of crossstitching-NOT counted crossstitch- here is a pic of a quilt I made for DGD many yrs ago-she is now 10!

This is the one I just finished crossstitching for DGD #2, I still need to do the batting, backing and edging, but will do that after finishing crosstitching the one for DGD#3

I also do a lot of freehand embroidery and different stitches. I recently taught DGD(10) how to embroider. This is her first effort, she only has to stitch the stems of the flowers.

She is looking forward to starting something else, more challenging.

Good luck! To me one of the most important things to make things easier and cleaner, is to keep the back looking good. I'm working on that with DGD. If the back is a messy jumble of thread, it is much easier to get tangles and knots in the thread you are using. Everyone that sees my backs says that you could use that side also. (I don't think so) It also makes it much bulkier.

I agree, cknmom! I'm trying to get the back as neat as I can, even for my utilitarian kitchen towels. I just feel better knowing I'm doing the best work that I can. In college, I had a home ec professor that told us the inside of our garments should look as neat as the outside.
RIP Miss French, you taught me well.
