Hand Quilting Time

Wow... this is alot of GREAT information!

Yes, I actually finished adding the backing and batting. I did a inside out pillow case rather then a binding. I haven't tried binding yet, and I plan to try it on a smaller piece like a table running I want to make for table instead.

I ran a straight line like a square around the edges after I gave it a good iron there were some places that got folded under on the back when I did it. I guess it slid, but it wasn't so bad and its pretty much fine otherwise. I'm going to have to use this hoop for now until I can afford a larger quilting square. Its not too bad of a hoop its 10".

So I'm going to start in the middle.... I have it laid out now to go draw my lines... I'm going to use a white fabric pencil, I think that should be fine.

Wish my luck. I need this done in time for Christmas. The sooner the better though... I so want to start that table runner!!!

Lovely Cynthia! I don't think I could pull that off. I'm just kind of doing the 'in the ditch' method right now. I'm going to go around the edges with a few lines only an inch apart for a little something else.... but the middle will be just the ditch thing. I did go get this gorgeous sage green thread to do this with rather then just white or cream... so we'll see what a nice accent that ends up being!

You guys rock!!!!

I think that you have a real knack for quilting--went to look at your quilt, so far. I am a SEWER, NOT a quilter. I know that quilting takes precision, and that's what I see in your work. I have been receiving monthly newsletters from:
eQuiltPatterns.com
It's a free newsletter. I don't have enough time to spend on this NOW, but I'm thinking about doing so in the future, so these will keep until then. I believe that you will be successful at quilting if you abide by the axim: K I S S --"Keep it simple, s_____" After you've done a few quilts you can attack more difficult patterns. DD is an expert seamstress--she'll rip it out and redo if it's not perfect, BUT her work is awesome. Congrats on a wonderful job so far!

I hand quilt and machine quilt. That top isn't too big to quilt on a regular machine. You can use bicycle clips to roll it up tight and hold it. I have machine quilted king sized quilts on my regular machine.

Now I am jealous of that for sure!!!!

I will go ahead and try it on a smaller quilt on my machine... I am just scared to screw this one up as its so important, and on a time line. Due date is approaching fast.

I am planning on a Christmas table runner for me I can try it with, or a wall hanging a friend of mine show'd me she liked I'm thinking of trying a go at! I feel better trying it on something smaller until I get the hang of it. I do have a crib size quilt I am thinking of starting for some friends we have expecting. Its just chancy the baby will make it and I am going to wait until the give us some positive news before I start it.
