Handgun Question

Thank you everyone! This is alot to study. I have no interest in hunting, the gun would only be used in case of coyote attack. Because there is very limited hunting , the coyotes have no fear. They have attacked both adults and kids in daylight. I am not even looking to kill, my thought was the sound of a gun would scare even the boldest coyote away. maybe my question should have been which gun makes the loudest noise .

You do not discharge a firearm to simply make a noise and never count on the noise as being a deterrent you may just discover that the animal you are trying to scare isn't going to play the game.

You can not recall that bullet once it leaves the gun.

A 12-gauge is extremely loud, to the point that it can be quite obnoxious if used too much.

However, you are definitely going to want to kill a coyote. They're canines, so they're smart enough to eventually figure out that the noise won't hurt them. You want every 'yote that enters your yard to drop over dead.

I've heard it a lot, so I'll repeat it here: the only good coyote is a dead (or terrified) coyote. So go make some good coyotes!

Then buy an air horn instead of a gun

You won't hurt anyone with that

My back yard backs up to what was once a very large estate. When the owner died in the 70s, she set up a trust for taxes and made it into a bird sanctuary. The land is heavy woods posted with no trespassing signs. This is where the coytoes are coming from. In winter with the trees bare no houses are in sight. Shooting a gun in to these woods would not endanger any person.
