I have a chunky-butt Brahma rooster who likes to be on the top roost (at 5') with the ladies, but was terrified to get down in the morning. I was worried that he would injure his legs, so I built ramps going up to the roost. They work perfect. He walks up and down and now even some of the hens like using them instead of jumping or flying. Great solution for older or heavier chickens.

Great result! Over the years I've added/modified/repositioned ramps all over the place as my girls age. Yes, the youngsters seem to enjoy the skyscraper-height roosts, but there are often problems related to jumping down from those roosts, especially if landing on unforgiving surfaces, or if the landing space is tight. Day after day, month after month. The simple act of adding a not-too-steep-incline ramp(s) where useful is something I wish more folks would consider.
