(I wasn't too sure where to post this rant of a thread. If it should be taken down please let me know)

My 6 month old porcelain d'uccle rooster has been battling marek's disease most of his life.
After he lost the ability to stand two months ago I've been taking care of him hand and foot. Spending almost 24 hours a day being with him.
He's taken a decline over the last few days. Stopped eating and drinking and he seems to be in pain whenever I touch him.
In a couple hours I'm taking him to the vet to be humanely euthanized.
I'm posting this in hopes of finding others who will understand how special a chicken can be.

I'm almost sure I'm doing the right thing, and there's nothing else I can do for him but I can't get over this horrible guilt and sadness.
I wish I had asked if he was vaccinated and had been more educated when I got him.
Maybe I could have done something.

If anyone has advice on how I can make him comfortable in his last moments or some peace of mind for me or someone else going through this situation I'd be very grateful

I'm sorry to hear about your beloved rooster. You didnt cause your rooster to have Marek's disease. It's a terrible disease and there is no cure. You are providing comfort care for him and that's the best you can do.

There comes a time that we eventually have to humanely put down a beloved pet in our lives; whether it's a favorite rooster or hen, a dog or cat, or any other creature that was special to us whether it's short term or long term.

We have to be grateful for the happiness and contentment they provided us while alive, through good times and bad. (Proof is in the Emergency forum.)

I can tell you from personal experience that even at my age it never gets any easier having to put down an animal, including a favorite chicken.

I'm sorry you had to go through this. Imo you treated him with respect and kindness til the end. Don't feel guilty over something that you ultimately had no control over
