At about 8 weeks, my hens are still incredibly fussy eaters. They reject all kinds of things one would expect them to enjoy...corn on the cob, strawberry tops, sliced figs, whole wheat bread, bits of pork, oatmeal, dry unsalted popcorn, yogurt, etc. They were curious about the yogurt, but seemed to hate getting it on their beaks...and would then try to wipe it off on any surface, or each other! I kind of wish we had an older hen who would teach the youngsters how good all this stuff is!
They do love dandelion greens, and will maniacally gobble down as many as I give them...even fighting over them when they are down to the last few bits. But that's really the only vegetable or green they really enjoy. They will eat a bit of lettuce, carrot greens or grass but without much enthusiasm. They definitely like cooked brown rice, but I don't like to give them too much of it. If I toss them a spoonful of birdseed, they will pick out the white millet and ignore the rest of the grains. But the one thing they go absolutely berzerk for is earthworms...or essentially any creepy/crawly bugs. It's unreal how they freak out and fight over them, when they were tiny chicks it was cute but now that they are pretty big it's kind of scary to watch!

Wow...mine will peck at sliced figs a few times and then ignore them. Which is really sad, as their coop and run enjoy the shade of a fig tree which is currently loaded with fruit!
