Hands on hatching and help

Hi!

When you say leaking, do you mean the safety hole is? If so, and it were my egg, I'd be opening it up further.

Hello! You're so lovely, it's always you that's helpful and you wrote the guides! Thank you so much! It must be difficult to watch an idiot trying to bumble through this with a little duck in the balance, so I really appreciate your support!

I opened it up further and put coconut oil on it because the membrane was all dry. He seems to be trying to poke through it with his bill, but no success yet. Should I try to make a little hole where he is poking? I don't want him to get tired out, because he already seems more tired than yesterday. I really don't want him to die.

Once again, thank you so much for all your help!

So the triangle you saw wasn’t actually broken thru the membrane yet?
Pipping the membrane itself can be dangerous, especially if it’s only day 27. Some pics may help us access the situation better.

Sorry, I forgot to answer! Yes, the safety hole was leaking, I put it in the top, but I guess he was wiggling lots.

I remember that you accidentally had the humidity too high throughout, so that's probably why it was leaking - too much moisture still left in the egg.

I agree with WV, pictures would be great :)

He didn't make it. I got up twice in the night to put oil on the membrane to keep it moist, but after rounds this morning, it looked like it had dried on him.

I'm sorry everyone. Thank you for all your help. I think I'm going to put my foot down with my boss about incubating more eggs until I fully understand all the nuances, and he buys the correct equipment. Otherwise we're just breeding horrible deaths for the poor little things.

I'm sorry, I don't have a phone for photos > <U Gomenne!

Sorry you lost him :hugs

Yes, definitely get the proper equipment before another go, and I bet you'll have much more luck :)

Sounds like mine is similar to the most recent. Little guy is still moving in there but not sure how long to leave him before piping the internal membrane?

I just linked Pyxis’ assisted guide on your other thread. :D
But there are good helpers here too, if you have specific questions

After reading those instructions, I’m worried he’s turned around. Is this discoloration a sign of where he’s been trying to pip?
