Hands on hatching and help

Yep, I just read through it last night. So about 18 hours ago, I candled it and saw it's heart beating and heard it chirp. However, I didn't see anything that looked like the internal pip from that article, so I'm not sure that has even made it that far yet.
if it has chirped, it has internally pipped- I expected to see the internal pip with my ducklings, but I never did see the classic beak in air cell. For me, I could just tell from them chirping/tapping.
So we can estimate that the chick internal pipped around 18 hours ago- So it is up to you, if you feel able, you can make a safety hole (no bigger than a pin hole, usually made by gently twisting the tip of a screw against the shell until it eventually makes a little hole) in the air cell for baby to breathe better- or you can allow nature to take it's course, or wait a little longer before intervening.
If it were my egg, I would probably candle to see how she's getting on, and then make the safety hole within the next couple hours.

Thank you! I think I will candle right now and make the safety hole if she is alive.

I candled and didn't see her moving at all. I made the safety hole, and then she started moving very faintly. So she is back in the incubator now. All chicks are she until proven otherwise. 😂
thats good! Hopefully that will help her. She may be a little slow from here, but you should still hope to see an external pip within the next 24hrs or so.
That's fair! I called my babies "he" and both turned out female 😂

I have a Serama chick. It pipped 2 days ago during the early evening, and last night it seemed like it started zipping but really only opened the pip a bit more. This morning it was actively moving along zipping a quarter of the egg and then sleeping and repeat. I get home almost 9 hours later and it's chirping loudly like crazy but hasn't moved or broken barely any more of the shell. The membrane is turning brown, and so I placed a warm moistened piece of paper underneath, but it continued not breaking the shell.

Finish the zip for it - if a chick starts zipping and then stops, it's stuck. They don't start zipping until they are ready to hatch, so you shouldn't run into any issues.

When do you think it should be moved to the broader, since it was trying to hatch this morning?
