Hello everyone. I had a major medical emergency with my youngest son a couple days ago. Fortunately he is home and doing much better today. I tried to catch up here and there today but It never happened. I will just jump in tomorrow morning. Please let me know if I missed anything important. Haven't even gone through my emails or PM's yet...

This is sooooo off topic, but I am sharing anyway. One of my friends had stopped by to buy some eggs this evening, and we were standing outside and you could hear this squeaking coming from the side of my house up by the roof. We concluded that there were bats up there. Now, we've been here almost 2 years now and last week was the first time I have ever seen a bat here. So as it got darker we sat outside waiting to see if anything came out as I wanted to see where they were getting in. I kid you not, I counted 26 bats fly out of the peak of my roof before it got to dark to be able to see them. If I can't see them, I can't duck so we called it quites after the 26th one came out and went in. So now I have to get my landlord to get his butt moving on this problem and get it fixed before we end up with guano poisoning or rabies. :/ I was expecting 3 or 4 but almost peed my pants when I counted 26!
I know. My friend that was out there with me when we heard them said "You need to put a bat house up" lol From what I read it is illegal to kill them off by colony. It said that if they are the little brown bats that I think they are, the colony is mostly female and the males roost in nearby trees and about June each one has a baby that doesn't come out of the colony's home until August. I actually love bats, just not having 26-50 of the little rabie carrying -guano dropping things living under my roof,Omg unreal! My neighbor had some, but I never have seen any at my house, although I do assume they are out there. I saw one at camp once and did a little research. You can make a house for them and put it away from your house, with some kind of attractant (can't remember what) and they will move. They are supposed to be beneficial, but creep me the heck out! Good luck!
LOL. I'm not a big fan of killing things. Unless it's spiders and insects, then I'm right on that crap...lol I just want them to go live elsewhere.Ladies, ladies. ...you need a Manx cat..mine are murderers..mice, bats, squirrels, rabbits, you name it.. my closest neighbor lives along a creek and has always had issues with rats coming up from the creek and getting in their house...when I first bought this farm, my oldest Manx would lay on her porch for hours or days until someone wasn't watching and she could slip in.. then she would go wherever that rat was and wait until she could get in where ever (under kitchen cabinets, etc).. my neighbors don't have cats (I think they belong on every farm, just like chickens)..but she said if one of my cats shows up now, she just opens the door and let's them in and then follows them wherever and makes sure they can get where they're going.. my oldest girl weighs about 4lbs..and I've seen her drag rats and rabbits that were 3x her size. I don't have to worry about anything that doesn't belong, whether it's a wild songbird or a field mouse...nothing lives once she is on it..
Her bat story..we just bought the farm and was still in the process of cleaning everything up.. it was about 11 at night, mid July, hotter than Hades.. and we were in the middle of a 3 week power outage from a storm.. we were sitting in bed, with all the doors and windows open. Here comes a bat flying thru the house, doing its crazy here, there and everywhere crap.. I took to hiding under the covers, shortly followed my my boyfriend (kids were at my mom's thankfully bc they would have been on their own..lol..) but my cat was just looking at us like we'd lost it.. she hops off the bed, goes in the living room, watches the bat for like 3 seconds..and BOOM.. dead bat..
I ooo'd and aaahh'd over her for an hour..letting her know what a great girl she was.. now it's a nightly game for her..of course I always make sure she's never a day late on booster vaccines and now have 2 of her daughters following in mama's paw prints ♡♡
Welcome to thread. What kind of incubator are you using?Hello everyone! I'm new to all this! So I put 12 lavender Orpington eggs in my incubator 21 days ago this evening. I'm down to 5 eggs in there and pretty sure only one had a live chick in it. The rest stopped developing somewhere along the way. I candled often as I have 3 children and wanted them to experience it. Now that today is day 21, I'm a stinking nervous wreck! I'm pulling for this chick so hard! Who would've thought I'd be this invested in chickens! Now I know what expectant fathers felt like when they were forced to wait in the waiting room waiting to hear if everything is ok!
