Hands on hatching and help

It's out of the shell. Yolk 100% absorbed and no bleeding, but it was so sticky that I guess it inhaled some of that goo and now it has goo coming out of it's nares. Prognosis is poor, but I'll try my best.

Let me start with, I love my husband. And, I love that he's a truck driver and is gone for months at a time. He was home this weekend...... My loving man noticed the temp gauge on the bator was reading a bit low and turned it up before bed. I woke up th the eggs at 104°.....ahhhhhhhhh!! We had a nice long talk about bator gauges and my thermometers and how he's NEVER ALLOWED TO TOUCH THE INCUBATOR EVER AGAIN.
So, I'll give the eggs a week and see if any will develop.
Oh no! Hope they are ok.

Well, I candled the non starters. Two I would say are dead with no internal pip. I left them in in case I'm wrong. The one that has a very small pip is moving lots, and 2 are maybe not pipped internally yet? Trying to stay out of the bator for a while. I got rid of the DIS egg. While I would have liked for every single egg to have hatched, the ones that have so far seem very strong and healthy. So, success.
:fl You should also see the air cell make a draw down, like a major droop. I've found that the DIS ones stay put and just never draw down.

:fl By the way, those were amazing photos of the one tight in the membrane. I've never seen one wrapped that tightly and still be alive. My theory was that shrinkwrapping happens after death, not a cause of it. But your pics may have changed my mind.

Tell him I said the leave it alone! :D Good luck though. I think duck eggs are more tolerant, so hopefully they will be ok.
Eating and drinking at just a few hours old! The miracle of life in a fuzzy adorable package.
Too cute!!

I've had two chicks that this happened to. 1 made it and the other did not. With the one that made it, it was pretty much a miracle. My mom works with rehabilitating animals and she came over and held the chick in her hand, beak pointing down toward the ground and she rubbed the back of its neck, pretty vigorously with her finger and all this golden, sticky fluid came up out of the chicks nostrils and mouth. I mean a lot of it...it made a small puddle on the floor. I was scared to death that she was going to kill the poor thing but the chick was fine after that! We tried to do the same with the second chick that it happened to but nothing would come up. I could hear a clicking noise in its chest every time it breathed. We tried steaming up the bathroom a couple times to see if it would loosen up the goo he breathed in but nothing helped and by the third day he passed.

No way! Why didn't he just tell you his observation before even thinking of touching it!?! I would have freaked! I really hope they are ok. :fl

Here are some of our babies- sleeping in my hand-- and then when they first hatched--- the other picture is my one who did not make it - I finally opened the egg and found a fully formed chick who just didn't hatch. :(

What cuties! Love the first pic. My hatch was over on Friday. 1 egg did nothing. I finally opened it yesterday and it looked very similar. Fully formed chick, yolk sac not fully absorbed but more yellowish and it seemed to be in the right position. I hate that because you really don't know why it didn't pip!
