I will always do my silkie eggs separately. That way I can adjust for them w/o jepordizing others. But that's me. Now the pet quality silkies I have that my sister is supposed to take are more normal sized eggs and those I would incubate with the others with no problems.
I never tried silkie eggs in the styrofoams, but they hatch in the cabinet right along with the rest of the 'chicken eggs"-----real good hatches every time---I probably hatched 200+ in the last one to two years.
Both of my broodies that I let sit last fall (Black Jap Bantam and my Spitzhauben) absolutely would not sit if I moved them. I wanted them separated out, because my birds think they have to fight over the same nest, but they would not sit unless they were where they wanted to be. Now I still candled periodically and when my Jap's eggs internally pipped I was able to put her in a cage and she set tight the rest of the time and after they hatched I opened the cage and after she brought them out she continued to use the cage to nest in at night with them. My Spitz though, tried the same thing with her and the next morning the eggs were cold and I thought they were gonners, but I let her go back to the nest and put them under her-there were only two- and they both hatched. As said---You Will, My Dark Braama's were alot more broody than the lite brahma even more than the Yellow Buff Orp. Most silkies lay 3 eggs then want to set on them---LOL. With my silkies I had a lot better luck with them having great hatches if I put them in private pens "properly" when they become broody. Good Luck
So I've seen all of these questions about hatching 2 different kinds of eggs and then hatching at different hatch dates so my question is ( and forgive me if I missed the answer in this thread) I have 1 batam egg as of today and on Wednesday I will be receiving my coturnix quail eggs can I start my batam egg tonight and then add the quail in (after they sit 12 hours after shipping) to the bator and then they will lock down and hatch at the same time. Will that be OK? The one bantam egg is from my little ones favorite hen and she finally laid an egg, of course it would be When the bator is getting ready for something else!!![]()
What he said!!! lolAllow 4 full days(96 hours) between setting them-----should put them close to hatching together. Good Luck
Are your silkie eggs fairly normal sized or are they small like banties? And what do you run your cabinets at? Most people that I see using the cabinets need a higher humidity to begin with, like 50ish???I never tried silkie eggs in the styrofoams, but they hatch in the cabinet right along with the rest of the 'chicken eggs"-----real good hatches every time---I probably hatched 200+ in the last one to two years.
When is hatch day?I'm so excited. I was terrified that I had done something wrong when I only saw a few of my eggs developing. I went back and checked and now their is twice as many with chicks in there. Some were just moving a little slower lol.can't wait for hatching day..![]()
