Hey can someone tell me how to tell if a chicken is going broody?

If she is sitting in a nest---probably on eggs---until you remove then DAILY----puffs up bad at you, makes all kinds of noise and tries to tear your arm off----(not all of them) she might be going broody

All these birth horror stories are one of the reasons I don't want kids, lol.

My peachicks go into lockdown tomorrow! And of course they're hatching the one weekend I have to be away to watch a friend's house while she's out of town. I have a feeling her dog and I will be spending a lot of time at my place.

They don't get off the nest except for once or twice a day to eat, drink, and poop. They might pluck their breast to allow their skin to come into contact with the eggs. When you approach them on the nest they may puff up and growl at you or make dinosaur noises. Like this:

My Spitzhauben will scream (and it's high pitched too) like someone is killing her if you een look at her or move toward her when she is broody. It's kinda funny actually....lol

Thanks. I was just wondering cause one of the hens we got was freaking out trying to get back into the introduction pen. I finally let her bag in and she spent about 10 mins making a nest lol. She layer an egg and left though so I guess that's just where she wanted to lay lol

Alright question everyone. We had to introduce some hens we got rather quickly today with our younger chickens. I would have liked to wait but they are pretty big and the temp this week is in the 100s. I didn't want them stuck in a crate in the heat. Anyways so far they have all been getting along with my smaller younger chickens. A few pecks here and there but not bad. I really haven't seen any serious aggression. Should I keep them seperate tonight or let them all share the hen house? I worried that with the confinement they could all gang up on the smaller ones. On the flip side of that I'm worried if they don't share the hen house that they will have to start the pecking order all over again tomorrow... any thoughts on this?

You want have to worry about them when "Lights Out" happens----They sound as though they might be OK----Just check them out at first dark---might have to put them to bed and watch them for a few minutes in the morning----you will know.

I think I'll do that but set an alarm to be up before sunrise to let them out.

My broody cemanis have chicks e I just reached under there to check the eggs and pulled out a chick, lol. It was gorgeous too, a definite keeper. Guess I better get them into their chick raising area, lol. I'm thinking about getting it set up and doing it tonight even though it's dark.
