Hands on hatching and help

Does your Hovabator have the fan or no? Hovabator and LGs are similiar except Hovas are more reliable...lol I use a LG. Here's is my method all the way through: http://hatching411.weebly.com/

I'd be happy to walk you through a hatch. Styros can produce great hatches once you get the hang of them. Of course, it's a different ball game with shipped than with local.
Oh, my you are awesome. Yes, I will try to find some local eggs then I will look for your help.

I have two Hovas. The one I just used is 1558. I have the next generation one also that is digital. But it came with a roll turner. That was a surprise. It is this one http://incubatorwarehouse.com/incuturn-egg-turner-hb.html

Yes I believe they both have fans.

Thanks for your help.

I've got another cemani on the way :weee Pipped this morning, so I might even see it out by tonight. They really do seem to hatch early - this eggs was due on the 12th.

Well, I go based on rarity of the breed, whether they're straight run and or if they're cockerels or pullets (cockerels being less expensive, pullets more), and of course I have to factor in demand and how much people in my area are willing to pay. So for my Easter Eggers, for example, I sell them as day olds at $3 each and they fly out of here. Cockerels I sell for $5 each and usually I can sell them at that price. Pullets start at $10 and increase the closer they are to POL.

Right now I have multiple breeds. I want to sell the extras. I have Ameracaunas, olive eggers and marans about to hatch. Also silkies and the anconas. I know I'll have extras of all these. I ordered the jubilee orpingtons which seem to me a hot item. I was thinking about maybe trying my hand with those next year after these chicks mature. Hopefully they will still be popular then.. :)

Yes! I've seen the new incuturn turners. I really like the looks of them. They are much more natural than the verticle ones

Check your local Craigslist and FB pages if you do FB and see what others are selling those breeds for. If you don't see many listings, you may get higher dollar, but if they are abundant, you may have to take less.

Ok thanks I'll do that. I don't think there is much selection around here though. That's why I became interested in hatching to begin with. :) mostly road island reds and silkies lol. :)

That makes me itch with anxiety. I could never have that many chicks crammed in a hatcher. Even when I first started hatching before I started removing them as they hatched, I got up to 7 or 8 and it was just too crowded and that's in a LG.
Some people worry about a eggs getting knocked around by already hatched chicks----it has no effect on my hatches. This tray was 1 of 4---probably 200+ chicks in the 4 trays.

Update on the broody cemanis - the seem to have shaped up. They had the chick in the chick raising area out of the nest box tonight and the were doing a good job of keeping it warm, so I think they'll get to keep it :)

And wouldn't you know another one has gone broody? I think I'll give her some eggs, maybe three. I have eggs orders to fill though and this might keep me from filling them for awhile. I hope the buyers will be okay to wait. Or maybe I'll get lucky and some of my pullets will start up laying.
