Hands on hatching and help

Hey guys it's day 20 here. Is it ok to take the lid off to add more water? No one has any cracks or holes in their egg yet..

Yep you can.

Just do it as quickly and carefully as possible.

You might also want to devise some way to add water without taking the lid off. Straws, rubber piping like for fish tanks, etc. I use bendy straws and a bottle with a little pointed nose tip (like the bottles that come with hair coloring). Some use syringes etc.

Ok thanks. Not sure how I could do that with the brinsea? Do you have a picture by any chance?

I have the humidity pump with my Brinsea, so I don't normally need to add water to the wells. I did once, though, but didn't take a pic. Sorry.

Its probably just as easy to open it real quick and get it over with!

By the way, adding food coloring to the water helps a lot too. I use blue or green, so its a bit easier to see the water level down in the yellow trenches.

Lol ok thanks. Just curious what is the humidity pump? I've been hearing alot about it. How does it work?

What week can I move the chicks out of heat lamp?
My Chicks are usually weaned off the lamp during the winter/colder months at a rate of 5 degree's per week. Warmer months I put them in a ground pen at 2 weeks old with some heat at night/cooler part of the morning and late evening. Usually during the warmer months---(where I live)----by 4 week old they are off the heat.

Awesome! That's a great pic of an internal pip too. I sure hope Mavis gets some siblings this time! Anxious for your morning update! :fl Day 14 candle for me last night. I kinda stopped taking candling pics, I had so many lol... but this latest set, I am amazed at how bold and strong the blood vessels look. Its so humid, my humidity is running around 32-35% completely dry, and I wish the air cells were a tad bigger, but I think everything will be ok. All 13 Golden Sebright and all 5 lavender orpingtons still going strong! This is a golden sebright egg on day 14:
I hope she gets some siblings too. And these eggs really would be her blood siblings. Nothing new going on. The one pipped egg made a little progress and the 2 with the safety holes have not tried to externally pip yet. I know all 3 have oxygen, so I'm just giving them time. My local call eggs go into lockdown today. I thought one was internally pipped but it moved its bill back, so Ravyn said it probably just pushing on the membrane. This is gonna be a long week! I love the candling pic! I love those eggs that have really transparent shells and bright thick veins! Looks good. I've struggled with these local calls to grow the air cells. They stayed so tiny. I finally had to run 20% humidity and mist 2 x day just to get growth!
And a few more of the 2-week old Seramas:
They are so cool looking!! Do they have 4 toes?

Go for it! If you candle quick, look for the "draw down".

I think I have some....

This is the way someone else controls humidity in the 20, days 1-18. She attaches a plastic dish to the lid. But just to give you an idea of where to put the tube.
What week can I move the chicks out of heat lamp?
It really depends on the chicks (breed) and the time of year. My silkies do really well with coming off of heat and are usually done by 3 weeks. I switch to the mama-heating pad-cave around 2 weeks and they usually give that up in a week. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...ooder-picture-heavy-update/4410#post_16762175

@RubyNala97

How do I tell if it's drawn down? I did a quick peek without moving anything. I just shined it towards the air cell. I didn't see any little beaks in the air cells yet. :(
