Hands on hatching and help

The severe dose (0.024%) is no less than 1.5 teaspoons per gallon. If you have a gram scale, the exact amount is 4.536 grams per gallon. Please ignore any post that says it's less than 1.5 teaspoons, 'cause they are wrong...

The dose was 1/3 teaspoon for moderate not severe. Since they are only a week old I didn't want to give them the strongest dose first.

Does Nutridrench have Thiamine in it? If so, I think people say not to give anything with thiamine when giving Corid.
Yes it does have Thiamine in it. I'll wait then. Thanks.

Are they all in the same brooder? If so, treat all.

-Kathy

Yes they are all in the same brooder.

I unwrapped and put them in. But did not check cells. I'll go back now and do that if you think I should.

Quote: If you want to treat for a moderate outbreak, it's 2.268 grams, which is about 3/4 teaspoon per gallon, not 1/3 tsp. One teaspoon of the powder weighs 2.7 to 3 grams, which is 540 to 600 mg per teaspoon.

The 0.012% dose = 454 mg per gallon.
1/3 teaspoon = 180 to 200 mg, so not enough.

Make sense?

FDA recommendations:
"Chickens
Indications: For the treatment of coccidiosis.
Amount: Administer at the 0.012 percent level in drinking water as soon as coccidiosis is diagnosed and continue for 3 to 5 days (in severe outbreaks, give amprolium at the 0.024 percent level); continue with 0.006 percent amprolium-medicated water for an additional 1 to 2 weeks."

The 0.006% dose for Corid Powder is 1/3 teaspoon (1.134 grams)
The 0.006% dose for Corid liquid is 1/2 teaspoon.

The moderate outbreak dose of 0.012% for Corid Powder is 3/4 teaspoon (2.268 grams)
The moderate outbreak dose of 0.012% for Corid liquid is 1 teaspoon.

The severe outbreak dose of 0.024% for Corid Powder is 1.5 teaspoons (4.536 grams)
The severe outbreak dose of 0.024% for Corid liquid is 2 teaspoon.

Corid Weight Pictures

This is 624 mg amprolium (white teaspoon)

This is 610 mg amprolium (orange teaspoon)

The mfg says that one teaspoon weighs 2.7 grams, but as you can see from the pictures above, mine weigh more than that.

Ok I already mixed the 1/3 teaspoon dose. Will that be ok for now and I can do the 3/4 teaspoon dose tomorrow? Also do I need to refrigerate this?

Oh I love it. Can you come do our cakes lol. It looks like its been professionally done! :)

Thanks..lol not quite professional, but it'll do.

Hey guys I have a question.. I have a hen in our nesting box with about 10 eggs underneath her lol. She doesn't fluff or growl when I pet her but when we sat an egg in front of her she tucked it underneath her. Is she broody or just collecting eggs lol

Mine do this when they are laying as well.

I would try treating them Cochins for cocci. It won't hurt them. Maybe do a low dose of corid. I have the pic of the dosing info, if you want it. I had one awhile back, poop was good but she was acting out of it, puffed up, droopy wings, I treated everyone with a dose just to be on the safe side, followed by a week of extra vits.
Love the cake pics!! It looks great! Hope you guys enjoy the party tomorrow!
First thing I would do is calibrate a separate thermometer & hygrometer and then put both in the incubator so you can check and see how accurate the readings are. I only let shipped eggs rest 12 hours and then I set them in the cartons in the incubator (pointy end down) and I don't touch them for 24 hours. Then, as Amy said, my plan would go by how the air cells look!! Candle them gently and check on how big the air cells look and how damaged they are. Do they wobble side to side? Or do they totally float around the egg?...all the way or half way?

Thanks

I'm not sure. I know she wasn't there yesterday. However I know she did steal the other chickens eggs lol. We collect the eggs everyday. She has all the fake eggs and every other chickens eggs underneath here lol. This is new behavior. Usually they lay an egg and run out. We just put our oldest chicks in the grow out pen. Wondering if that may have started something..

Mine sit forever before and after they lay.

It's the new hovabator. Do I check the air cells before I put them in the incubator or after. I've not even unwrapped them yet

What Ruby said earlier. I thought I quoted more... Apparently not... Knowing what your air cells look like are going to help you decide how to proceed.

It needs to be made fresh daily. Are you using quart or gallon waterers?
