Hands on hatching and help

I was sent shipped eggs. 23 sent, 22 are developing. It's just amazing! I candled at day 6 and candled today at day 12 and they're all doing great. The seller was none other than RubyNala97. :D

That's great! My present silkie flock are from Ruby's eggs. You won't be disappointed. She has beautiful birds and is an awesome seller/shipper. Good luck with hatch!

I've looked into this and we've talked about it on other threads. Some hatchers swear by having no labels on the box, not even the word "fragile". Others prefer all the bells and whistles (live embryos, hatching eggs, etc). I've also read one single article that says to put the word "honey" & "glass" on the box because postal workers don't want to clean up honey, maple syrup or broken glass. I've had eggs come both ways, no real difference. When I'm sending eggs I usually ask if the receiver has any special directions for the outside of the box. My norm is stickers (cus they're easier) that say "fragile" and "this end up" with an arrow.

And I've said this before but you have had amazingly good luck with all your batches of shipped eggs!!
Thanks for the post!! I'm so very happy for you and can't wait to see those baby pics!!

I've definitely had a few bad batches as well. All bantams and all really special to me. Isn't that the way of it though.. :)

Hey guys I've started free ranging my girls in the back yard so their egg laying habits are changing a bit. One cries at the gate to get to the hen house lol. Anyways they are not even close to laying daily at the moment. How long can I keep their eggs setting out before I incubate them?

Thanks for the great input Jenn, AmyLynn, and Ruby! Ruby, you really did do a superb job packing. I've sent and received shipped eggs from all over the US, but this is the first time I've ever heard of basically 100% viable shipped eggs. It's just shocking!! I'm done with candling now. I always candle about the 6th and 12th day and that's it. They are due August 5th so I will post pics around that time. Ruby, I know I've pm'd you several times but again, thank you! You've broken a shipped egg/development record, that's for sure!

Most people will only hatch eggs at a week or less old. The most touted recommendation is 10 days or less and most agree that over 2 weeks hatch rates significantly drop.

Isn't she awesome! Ruby is a true jewel.

@RubyNala97 have to also add that the zorb is doing a fantastic job in the Eco. Staying stuck on 70% humidity. Can't thank you enough for that ease of my mind. :hugs I owe ya!!

X2 what Amy said. My last set of sebright eggs, I had sold some, so when I went to set some, I only had 13 that were 10 days old or less. Since I had room, I added 5 more that were like 3 weeks old. All of the new 13 developed, but none of the 5 did. I've seen people test older eggs successfully, but that was my only attempt at older eggs.

Oh, I have 2 pips in self-blue OEGB eggs! :ya nothing in the choc orps yet, but they are larger and its only day 19.

@Pyxis what's going on with yours? And who else was hatching with us?? I know i remember a few people saying they set around the same time!

Edit... dang autocorrect :/

Awesome! I love OEGBs, you'll have to post pictures! I'm not sure what's going on with mine since I'm at work but I'll post back when I get home in a couple hours.
