So I just candled a duck egg that's try to pip internally, and I think I can see that it's feet are over it's head! Will try to get a video of that!

I tried to get a video, but when I candled I decided it needed intervention, so I opened it. Foot is over it's head, but it's also really sicky. Most of the veins are really small, but they're still there. Used 32 q-tips and removed as much of the yellow goo possible. Poor little duckling has bubbles coming out of it's nares, though not as bad as the one from last week.

Any thoughts on how to deal with the goo?

What did you have the temp on with the Still??

I do not understand temperature with the still and could use help. I had it 98.5 at the bottom and approaching 102 at the top of the eggs. I did notice the temperature went down for a while at hatch to 97 or 98 at the bottom so this could have been part of my problem. too cold.

I get really nervous about the still going too high. I do keep it in a 70 degree bathroom with a heater that I run in there to keep the room temperature stable.

The eggs pipped pretty much right on time.

    Hi, has anyone helped you?
Im still learning but I was told during "lock down" to not help them. But you have to do what you think is right.
    Have you seen any progress?

Still air the temp should be 101-102 taken at the top of the eggs. My temp goes down during hatch too because I open to take out the chicks among other things.

None of that here!! [IMG] This is a hands ON thread. Seriously though, hands on hatchers do NOT follow the philosophy of not opening the bator at hatch or not helping. That is the whole reason of the thread, to have a space away from the critisism of hands off and the attitude we shouldn't help or someone yelling about the bator being opened. There are many ways and philosophies of hatching that can be successful. Yes, many hatchers will warn you against opening that bator and helping- that's just one method of hatching, not ours...lol but it is one method.

Oops, did not mean to be telling to not help. Just stating that's what I was told last summer when I was doing my 1st hatch out. I had 1 eggy that was taking a while & i did help the baby. Glad I did too.
I totally get the "judgy" stuff like on Facebook. Ugh frustrating and that's acruelly how I came across this thread with my current problem egg.
So sorry if I made a mistake. I just was wanting to see if her eggs made progress is all.
:) ♡ much ducky love here.
Hope I clarified myself, again oops sorry :)

LOL I'm just yanking your chain....lol I know a majority of the hatchers especially the older gen are dead serious hands on and will literally condem a person for doing anything but. And then they pass that attitude down to any hatcher they help because if your new you take the lead of those that help.

Super egg-cited guys. After working out a CORRECT temp issue(fyi use more then one thermometer if hatching) getting ready to try a new batch on Thursday or Friday(the Americana laying both days or not will be deciding factor in day).

    Whoop whoop![IMG][IMG]
