Hands on hatching and help

Still air the temp should be 101-102 taken at the top of the eggs. My temp goes down during hatch too because I open to take out the chicks among other things.

None of that here!!

This is a hands ON thread. Seriously though, hands on hatchers do NOT follow the philosophy of not opening the bator at hatch or not helping. That is the whole reason of the thread, to have a space away from the critisism of hands off and the attitude we shouldn't help or someone yelling about the bator being opened. There are many ways and philosophies of hatching that can be successful. Yes, many hatchers will warn you against opening that bator and helping- that's just one method of hatching, not ours...lol but it is one method.
And also, Some need the help, with calls it's an all new ball game, That's why it's called the CALL DUCK CHALLENGE, because they are Definitely a challenge to hatch. I can't tell you HOW MANY eggs, I went through before I got it right. OMG, SOOOOO MANY. and like I said before the 10 I lost with 80% humidity was part of that MANY. LOL

As far as opening the bator, well, I have a different theory on that. You see I did an experiment I opened the bator during lockdown, I opened it Three times a day as if I was still turning my eggs, I didn't raise the humidity it stayed 50-55 from day ONE to hatching day. Guess what, wasn't anything different. Still had a good hatching, nothing shrinked wrapped, nothing got sticky, nothing struggled.

Lockdown was Created by us for the SOLE purpose of reminding us DON"T TOUCH. is it really necessary well that's debatable.

Hi, has anyone helped you?
Im still learning but I was told during "lock down" to not help them. But you have to do what you think is right.
Have you seen any progress?
Woke up this morning to find 3 had externally pipped and one of them were dead made s hole in the other!

Oops, did not mean to be telling to not help. Just stating that's what I was told last summer when I was doing my 1st hatch out. I had 1 eggy that was taking a while & i did help the baby. Glad I did too.
I totally get the "judgy" stuff like on Facebook. Ugh frustrating and that's acruelly how I came across this thread with my current problem egg.
So sorry if I made a mistake. I just was wanting to see if her eggs made progress is all.

I have my own thoughts on FB, LOL, I know this one person contacted me for help, everyone told her, CULL the baby, he's not going to make it any way. Good lord can't remember exactly why the people on FB told her to cull it. but it had something to do with it not fully absorbed. Well I gave her some tips on how to help it. And the darn thing finally absorbed and perked up. She went back on the forum and Bragged to everyone, "for those that wanted him dead, SHAME ON YOU". she had a pic of him under neath. LOL It was a great in your face moment. LOL

Super egg-cited guys. After working out a CORRECT temp issue(fyi use more then one thermometer if hatching) getting ready to try a new batch on Thursday or Friday(the Americana laying both days or not will be deciding factor in day).

Whoop whoop!

Day 7 candling. A little spider looking thing inside the egg means a chick - little area surrounded by clear veins - and it's good? Um, yeah, so a bright line of red going all the way around the inside of the egg means that's not good, right? And an air cell that still looks like a bubble floating around all over the place in there is most likely also not good at this point, I'm assuming.

This ain't looking real good, folks. Too many blood rings, too many floaty air cells, too few with obvious veining, and some I can't see into well enough to tell much of anything. If this count holds until the end, and all of the ones I think look good at this point hatch, that'll be 9 out of 27. If I take out the ones that have veining to this point, but that I think the air cells will be too much to overcome, then that puts it down to 3. I haven't pulled any eggs because I know they can sometimes fool ya at this stage and I'm simply not experienced enough to make the call. Either that or I just plain don't WANT to make the call....haven't decided that yet either.

Grrrrrrr
Send pic, I can tell you which ones aren't good. Otherwise, Deattached air cells are very difficult to reattach, I believe when that happens the damage is already done. Although I will say I have gotten about 2 eggs to show signs of life, however they never made it to the end.

NICE, on the THREE, OH NO what happened with the dead on?  Did you happen to eggtospy him?

The dead one, was he the one that has been internally for two days??
No it was just one that had die a few days ago- there was no internal pip and just a tiny bit of movement!!
The one that was internally pipped for two days has now externally pipped!

NICE FOR THE LATE COMMER, LOL he's slow but he's coming. LOL.

Did you happen to open him up to see what the issue was?
