Hands on hatching and help

They can but they mature more slowly than ducks so you'd want to have a duckling hatch scheduled for the same time as the gosling hatch so they would at least be the same age. And then when you can get another goose, go ahead and do it because they are much happier with a companion of their own species :)

I definitely want 2. I'm hoping for females but either way I'll be happy. ILL probably order a 2nd from a hatchery when available if the 2nd one doesn't hatch.. :)

Sounds like a plan! They grow really quick, so you'll want to have an area ready for them. These are my goslings from this year:

They were hatched 4/25/16, so they're three months old and very nearly full grown, just a little more filling out to do. They're still just big babies, though, not mature yet.

Hello everyone! I wanted to share how things were going with the 23 shipped eggs from RubyNala97! Out of 23 sent, only one was a dud. I put 14 in my two Brinsea mini advance incubators and the remaining 8 under a silkie broody in my coop. She pooped on 4 eggs and even after cleaning them gently with a dry cloth she wouldn't sit on them so I traded her 4 clean eggs from the incubator. Two days ago i made her get off the nest to poop and eat and I found one egg flattened and demolished. I really think a roo or another hen got in the nest box and damaged the egg, not her. There was a chick in the remains and only 5 days before they were due to hatch. So that left 21 developing eggs. One of my incubators started smelling funky and found a poopy egg I had swapped from her was rotten and oozing so I threw it out. So 20 eggs left with 3 days left to go! Lockdown starts tomorrow evening so it's starting to get exciting now.
Thanks for the update!! Good luck!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I stumbled across 2 Sebastopol eggs and purchased them from ebay. Like you said end of the season so their were only 4 left and they were asking 20 dollars an egg. I've wanted goose eggs all season but waited to long so I jumped on these. Now I'm worried knowing how shipped eggs are plus not having experience with them...
Ok thanks for the help.

One of these days I'm really going to post pictures of the keets, lol. I'm going to try to get some tonight. They are so cute. I'm still torn on whether the royal purple one is royal purple or just pearl pied so hopefully someone will be able to help me there.

I also have to lock down two peafowl eggs and some WH eggs tonight. Two of the WH eggs will be going to my broody pekin whose eggs didn't hatch. I'm hoping she'll be a good mom. She's a super broody but as far as I know has never raised ducklings.
Not my pics, but pearl pied:

Royal purple:

PS Hurry up with the pics. Thank you.

Oh they are gorgeous!! I've always loved geese. It's only now we have room for our water fowl. It's getting cramped though so hoping to try for a bigger home with more property in a few years. I so he the geese hatch. I just love them lol. :)
Thanks for the update!! Good luck! I :love Sebbies
I think I remember you telling me about them to begin with lol.

Yes...lol Geese were brought up and I said if I were in a place where I could have them, they would be my choice. They are just so unique.

Lol I'll hurry  And thanks for the pictures! The little thing is confusing me because the middle stripe on its head is solid like a royal purple but the others to the side are squiggly. I'll get a picture and maybe you can help me out :)

So, a couple weeks ago we had to have Buster (the dog we adopted from the pound a year ago) put down. Heath wise he was declining fast , especially walking because of his back hips and he wasn't eating right over the last month and when he did eat he'd have explosive diarreha all over. Then he stumbled on our stairs and fell down them dislocating his front shoulder (possibly with a break.) When we adopted him they said he was 8, the vet said, when we took him in, that he appeared to be "quite an old dog". The conclusion was either the mistreatment and possible neglect he had suffered through his life aged his body beyond it's years or he was quite a bit older than the pound had him listed for. So we made the decision to put him down. A few days later I had called my sister and was telling her about what had happened and she said, (after apologizing because it was still soon after putting him down-she's not cold hearted,) that my niece still had one of the "puppies" that her dog had back in March, that still needed a home. (There was something like 10 or 11 to begin with.) So the next day I talked to my niece and we discussed us taking the last pup that no one had wanted. They were black lab/St. Bernard mixes, and this one looked mostly black lab, and was a bit smaller than the others. So my nephew picked her up for me and brought her up when he came to get his chickens I was giving him last Monday. BEST DECISION EVER!!! She needs a little more weight on her than what she showed up here with, but we are fixing that. She is absolutely the best dog I've seen since my childhood (best friend) that we had for almost 14 years before we lost her too old age. For once, I think we made the right decision. She is everything that my son and I wanted in a dog. She'll be five months Friday, but she is training so well in most everything (except hogging the bed...lol) and her and my son are just awesome together. I don't regret adopting Buster and it helps to know that the last year of his life he learned not to fear and what love was, but I would never go through that pound again and especially not during an open house. Having to put him down sucked and was very emotional, but there is no doubt that it was the right decision just as taking Tali was the right decision. So I have to share a pic or two: She's pretty good with the chickens too!
I'm so sorry to hear about buster! I remember when you got him. Like you said, at least you made his last year a good one. :hugs I'm so happy for you & the new puppy! She's beautiful and she looks like a good girl too! :)
So I know that 2 of my black ones are boys and I am pretty sure the other 2 are pullets. Then with my 4 paints I know that 2 are boys but unsure of the other 2 and then the 2 last whites I am not sure at all.

Yay!!!! She is beautiful! I miss my black lab so much! She ate my chickens but she was so pretty! I am glad it's working out!
Silkies are soooo hard! Streamers are thin feathers that will come out from the back of the crest and down the back of the neck. When they first come in they kinda shoot straight out the back. Any pics from a side angle would be good. I'm really not sure on yours but I'm pretty much on the same page with Amy's guesses. I think the first white one is a boy. The rest of the whites look girlish. The blacks I'm not sure. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. They will be obvious soon, I promise. But some side shots would help and pics of the whole bird.

Boy times flies!! :fl can't wait for your hatch! I'm about to set 2 dozen right now.

Happy birthday! They are such beautiful geese! I was going to say to go to the geese hatching thread (but Pyxis best me to it) It's awesome!

Pictures as promised!

First the keet that I was confused on that I now think is pearl pied and not royal purple (and who was very unhappy about this photoshoot):

The two pintos:

And lastly the little possible pinto of a different color, maybe lavender (the color is not 100% accurate here but maybe enough to make a guess at its color):

700

Oh, and you do guys remember the blue chick that hatched with the white head spot that I wondered if it was going to be barred? Here it is now:

700

Not barred, but the feathers are tipped with white at the ends. And a frizzle :)

And just for fun, this little guy is my future flock leader:

He's got big spurs to fill.

And I will now stop spamming the thread with pictures :p
