Hands on hatching and help

I had my first hawk Visit today. Very fortunately I was in the kitchen making pancakes at the stove, which is right next to the back door. All of a sudden I heard everyone go nuts and the ducks flew right to the back door. I opened the door and the hawk was staring right at me! I ran outside and he flew away. A very close call. If I hadn't of been standing right there he probably would have got one of the ducks! I always hear everyone's terrible stories about Hawks. I never thought I could hate an animal but I was looking for that hawk to come back all day! (Thankfully he didn't).

Hi guys, I've been looking and looming and looking and I can't find much information on helping a swollen /sticky chick. When should I put it in water? How do I not get the water in the beak? It's been about 13 hours since my chick externally pipped and a ton of liquid came out and got stuck all over the outside of the shell and the little chick has made zero progress. I don't want to help too soon or too late, advice?

Chances are if it had that much excess fluid it's going to be stuck once the air dries it out and you will probably have to help. Hopefully none of the excess fluid made it into the little one's nose.
I don't usually assist until 24 hours, but I usually check them at 18. I try not to mess before 18 hours though. How big is the pip whole? If it's big enough to use a q-tip I'd moisten the membrane around the pip hole and get as much of the goo off as possible and unless the membranes are vein free, I'd give it until 18 hours and then check to see if you can assist safely.

Okay thank you, I will leave it alone for another 3 hours, I'm so nervous I'm going to hatch it too late. I've been keeping it moist and have the humidity at about 80% just hoping it'll get out

I got my chick out finally in some warm water. I got the top of the shell off and then let the little guy wiggle out on its own. It has some green/white stuff on its butt. Any ideas on what that is? I am keeping it damp but I'm not sure if thats right

Sounds like egg goo and poo. It should come off w/o a problem. Congrats on getting it out.
