Hands on hatching and help

I use a really high lumen small flashlight that I picked up at Walmart for around $20 and it sees into marans eggs

Might be something to look into if you're going to be doing a lot of them.
I am definitely going to start looking around. Marans will be my main flock. If I ever decide to dabble with Black Copper Marans, those eggs are even darker.

A lot of led lights will do the trick because the lumens are so high . Some as much as 1000 lumens . I use 4.5 watt 50 watt equivalent LED rate at 400 lumens in my box Candler with a dark brown felt around the hole . . I can candle very dark Marans eggs . But really dark blues are harder to candle than really dark browns .

Hello all :)
I am back with my 3rd hatch. We have 9 externally pipped tonight 8 polish and 1 duckling.
Crazy story on the duck eggs! My ducks were killed in Feb by a fox. We had 4 dozen in the fridge for selling and 1 dozen we were gathering to sell to someone for hatching. After the ducks were killed we put ALL 5 dozen in the bators...yes even the refrigerated ones as well.
So we have 5 duck eggs that have made it to hatch day!
Excited for them to hatch!!

Congrats!

I have 8 beautiful babies in the bator that hatched yesterday.

Now that I'm not collecting silkie eggs, they are laying better. Got 3 yesterday and five the day before. Little witches!

I also saw my black roo mount a girl yesterday. So he does know what he's doing! Yay!

7 eggs in there due in two weeks, then I'm taking a break.

Oh, I checked the lav eggs that had the weird dark lines under the yolk, the ones I thought were quitting, and they are doing fine! Strange eggs to candle, compared to all the others.

I have a question
My electricity went out for approx 2 hours between 4 am and 6 am. Is there a way to determine if chics died? Incubator showed 78 degrees when I got up and noticed no electricity.

I got about 200 in my incubator at two hatch dates----for a friend---I am taking another break after I get them hatched -----too!!

Shouldn't be a problem. What day are they on? Give them a few hours to re-stabilize and candle them.

And remember -- broody hens get off their nests lots, so a little cool down usually doesn't hurt the eggs.

I keep saying I'm going to take a break too. Then another group starts laying well again! LOL

But broody #5 for this year has started, so I think I'll just let the girls handle it for a while.

Hello i have a problem with my duck egg and dont know how to handle ....
I broke my egg last night because i squeezed it with the straw too much in order to make it warm :( luckyly the membrane isnt intact and no blood leak out
It is like this
400

When i was covering some pieces of shells with sticky glue
back into the egg i saw the egg rocking, slightly to hardly 2h after i broke it :O today it also shaking too! but i dont hear any peeping. Do i broke the egg to let the duck out or just let him peck the shell by himself?
P/s: He will turn 27th tomorrow.
Hoping for your helps!
