Hands on hatching and help

Ok, so yesterday morning after I was up and awake I took a look at the eggs and found that two were already starting to draw down. (Day 17) I was keeping an eye on them because, one, I can't help myself, but also I was trying to figure out whether to lockdown before I went to bed or this morning since officially day 18 starte 10 pm last night. So, I started thinking I should lockdown before bed, but I would candle the two before and see where we were. Well around 8, I was checking temps and humidity and saw this:

One had already externally pipped. 2 hours away from day 18.

Now, I usually have early hatches day 19/20. Last hatch I even had a pipper late day 18 but no hatching until day 19. (I let the bator run a tad warm, but it hasn't ran any warmer that normal.) Granted these are much smaller and these two particularly are smaller ones of the group, but we are wondering if one of the hens hadn't been on them long enough to jump start the incubation before they were collected and sent. (Kinda hoping that's the case.) All the rest look like you'd expect for day 18. A couple are showing signs of draw down, but nothing major yet.

Last night the other one had internally pipped so I figured sometime this afternoon we'd see a pip from that one.

Well I woke up this morning checked the eggs and the second one already pipped. It's barely noticeable, but it's there, a little pushed out bump in the shell. And the other one had been making it's hole bigger almost like it wanted to go up the egg instead of around.

The second pipper is diagonally, the one with the little x. It actually pipped on the line above the x.

I'm not expecting any hatching until tonight, which I'm more comfortable with since it will put us closer to day 19. This little gal/guy is quiet. I did get him to peep back at the recorded chicks once, but other than that, he's just hanging out in there chilling. No peeping, just breathing.

Good Luck Amy and Ruby!

Hi everyone!

Way behind, but wanted to share... just had to help one. It's a peachick that lost 15% by day 27, but couldn't pip internally. Big, fat "juicy" chick with a swollen head and *huge* belly. Very weak now, so I don't expect it will live. Will take pictures later.

OK. We have TWO silkies out. 3 days early, but they look ok. I actually caught some video of the second one zipping and hatching, the end of hatching. (Of course my camera picks that point in time to shut itself off for low battery....lol)

One is a black with silver. Ruby thinks once it's dry it'll show partridge. The other is yellow -so white.

I know that at least one more of the silkies are internally pipped, one Spitz and one nn. Been a while since candle, but now that the twosome are out......lol

I have one lavender orpington out, the other 2 have pipped externally. I think the mutts are gone, but left them in for now. This first LO looks to be the prettiest one I've hatched yet! Beautiful color.

You're LOs have always been beautiful. I think one of the Spitz is gone too. I think I have five more internal pips (2 nns, 2 Spitz and another silkie, ) and a couple that are close. We are official on day 10 in 8 minutes...lol

Thanks! The second pipper hatched about 1 a.m. And the 3rd one is working on it this morning. Still nothing on the mutts, so I'll check them when I grab these chicks out.

I believe you mean day 20? ;)

I'm so anxious to see those silkies!

Before I got rid of my eggs I wanted to try and figure out what went wrong with my Japanese bantams......so I opened the egg and found the something was wrong with their beaks they were deformed any one had anything like that....I'm thinking that's probably why they couldn't hatch.....everything else looked fine but I've never seen our chicks before like this that we hatched I will post a picture later if any one wants to see it.
