Hands on hatching and help

It's an issue with their server, I believe... yeah, last night was exceptionally bad... BYC had one of those cases of pasty butt that just didn't want to clear up...

LOL

Good plan!
And I really wanted Calls, but know that I could never move them to camp, and they are too loud for my house

And I want in on the silkie pic sharing!!

Outstanding!! So the 2 that you thought weren't going to make it have pipped too? Anxious for next update.
That's full sized ducks. Calls are different!

Nope. The two I was sure weren't didn't. One stopped yesterday evening and the other one sometime in the wee hours this morning.

22 in the brooder and my hatch is done!!!! As of last update I had 3 silkies left that had pipped. 2 of them raced to get out last night around midnight and when I checked the bator around 2:30am, (after our dog called my cell phone and woke me up,) the third was out and yelling away. Looked like it had just got out. (maybe she was calling to let me know so I could check them.....) Anyway....

The little silkie with the leg problem is looking good. took the brace off and she's moving and staying upright the whole 9 yards. The malpo baby has done great, though very sticky and has passed to brooder baby.

12 beautiful silkies thanks to @RubyNala97 7 fluffy Spitzhaubens thanks to Prissy....lol and yes, I got all Spitz eggs. I was sure I was collecting the right ones, but......lol and 3 from my green eggs, one that is nn and the other two not. The one that was DIS from drowning would have been an nn so I would have had 50% nns from my nn hens.

Oh I wanted to mention, the malpo nn egg that I assisted. In the bottom was that yellowish jelly stuff like we were talking about a bit a go with the duck eggs. It was interesting.

One very happy chick mamma here.

Oh, and I did a member interview a few days ago if anyone is interested: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1098896/byc-member-interview-amylynn2374#post_16895553

So I only have 1 call egg left. The second looks like tried to internally pip over night (there's a bruise, just like Ravyn said there would be) but it couldn't. Makes me wonder if I should have tried to get the bill out. That's the fullest assist I can imagine and honestly scares me. No movement today, I'm sure it's gone. The other egg finally pipped yesterday as I posted and last night I made a little safety hole so it could get oxygen. The pip is very low on the egg. I thought I would post pics here to show the position of the internal pip and the size of the safety hole. Going to check on him in a little bit.

So excited and happy for your hatch! Can't wait to see more pics. Going to check out the interview now!...

One of my ducks has started hatching....4 days early! I noticed around noon yesterday it had piped. Last night around 11 it had partially zipped. This morning it looks the same, and is chirping and trying hard to get out. I'm not sure if it is in the right position or not. Every once in a while a foot comes out of the pip. How long should I let it go before I help? Any advice is much appreciated. This is my first time hatching in an incubator. Here is a pic of how far along the hatch is.

If it started zippping last night, I would get it out. Zipping should not be a lengthy process and if it's sticking it's leg out, it probably lost the position to turn.

How do I go about doing that? Do I open the bator and take him out and help? How do I keep him warm? A heat lamp? I just don g want to end up hurting him. He is moving and chirping a lot still.

If he's already zipping, there's not much to do other than pull it out and finish the zip line for him and pop the top. I use tweezers to go around the shell when I assist. Taking him out for that little time will not hurt him. You can even let him push out himself.

Ok! Thanks

Ok I finished the zip. The membrane still wet, but it looks brown. I know they turn when they dry, but it's not. Is this normal? Here is a pic of where we are now.
