Hands on hatching and help

That would also be exciting like hatching I think. Especially if it's a chicken you've bonded with. It's all the benefit without the work lol

These are Call ducks, and I'm very bonded with them except the grandma... I got her as an adult, we have an understanding but it's not like with the others...

I wish that peachicks did that... if they did, I could probably save the malpos.

Right. Or all of them....
Just wanted to give an update on tweety our buff silkie chick. She is doing much better today. Definitely still on the mend but better. She is eating and she drinks water off a quetip. She has also started running around. Not great but she is moving Adleast lol. I let her go back with her hatch mates. This morning she did have some paste up but we cleaned her bottom and dabbed it with vaseline so that should help. Thanks for the prayers and good wishes. They are really working.

That's great news!

I've got an external pip! I'm really really hoping it hatches in the next few hours so that it's a July 4th baby. Come on little chick :jumpy

Omg I'm so excited but scared too. They are pipped early. Hatch day was supposed to be July 8. So far I only see 4 pipped. What do I do now? How long does it usually take once they have internally pipped to external?
I had some call duck eggs take 4 days after internal pip...so they might end up being right on time! :gig Very excited for you!
Things to watch for: Bruises on the shells... when my Muscovy ducklings try to pip in the wrong spot a bruise shows up, so if you see a bruise, I'd be willing to bet that's where the bill is. Here is a picture of what I mean: This is a Muscovy that tried to pip at the wrong end. This is the whole I made for it. Here's another: The brown spot is where it pipped internally, the hole is one I made. Note that the air cell is on the other side of the egg! This is after I made the hole larger Hole/pip vs air cell -Kathy
Thank you so much for posting these!!!! Ravyn's always telling me to look for bruises. These pics are priceless!
It's so hard to keep the humidity up in the brinsea.
Tell me about it! :/
No, they zip, at least mine do... but they tend to punch out in a space and make a big hole first...
X2. I was going to say they just make a huge messy hole/holes...not like chicks. Lol.
Yay!!! Wo happy for you!! :celebrate I have a very 'hands off' hatch going right now...

Beautiful pics! Another call hatch? I envy you and feel bad for you at the same time!
Awww, so cute! Is her toe crooked? I can't tell for sure from the pic. My first one I ever hatched had one crooked toe and I didn't straighten it and I used to wish I had but now I have so many, it's the only way I can tell her apart and I'm happy I didn't.

I was just thinking about Mavis having babies one day...does lady grey let you be apart of it? Let you near her babie?
