Hands on hatching and help

:celebrate :jumpy

I took a hand held rake and went all through the bedding. I was just stopping home to feed them and lock up before needing to leave again but I tried to comb the whole area really good. I feel bad now. Maybe I missed it. The good thing in that my most of my crazy silkies sleep in a huge pile in the run and only a few go up to the coop but they all pile up around her at night, so hopefully it will be getting warmth overnight if it's out there. I have to keep telling myself that I don't want chicks anyway! It's some urge inside me to keep everything alive.

Odd, but maybe it will turn up. Had you candled an know it was fertile?

Lady Grey tried to be vicious mama, but couldn't bring herself to really bite me, lol... Bubs gave her no choice, he wanted me to give him lifts, his short legs couldn't keep up with all the others... Crash liked me being with the babies...

Pied is LG's daughter... she lets me help...

Only had to help 1 that pipped wrong end...

So precious!

I ended up pulling it out and replacing the egg with a warm moist paper towel. Humidity went up to 70 percent. I removed a bot of shell and the membrane underneath looked brown. Not the top one. I don't think that was an issue though. Looks like maybe a malposition.I used vaseline to moisten and made a bigger zip then put her in the incubator with the ducklings lol. None have external pips yet so I think it's better to open that one then the other. I'll update but I'm going to wait awhile before I fiddle anymore.

Yeah, that sounds like a good plan. Once I starting buying more incubators, I found it really came in handy during hatch time. I like to have one running as an icu for assists. Was there still veins?

Yay!! She did it!!

Funny you ask that because she had one egg kinda off to the side, not under her (but when I picked it up it was still warm) so I brought it inside and candled it because I was wondering if that was on purpose and the little guy was moving in there. I have not checked the other 2, so maybe. But where the heck is it?! Lol. I'll look extra good in the morning. Besides I do not want more chicks (I have to keep repeating this).

These guys all pile on top of each other!! They actually "fight" to be on the bottom....lol I watch them try to manuver under each other. It's so funny to watch.

Yes it still had veining. I waited about an hour and then it pretty much popped out itself. Without the shell all it needed to breakthrough was the membrane. She has hatched now and is strong and adorable lol. :)

Oh my lord it never ends. Just had someone in a thread contradict me and FridayYet, both of us having owned poultry for years, after we both posted to help. They literally said to the OP "don't listen to them". I mean it. This person got their very first chickens on January 31st of this year going by their post history. What is going on lately? I think my reply may have been a little snarky but I'm getting really tired of this. Anyway, I have directed the OP here so we may be seeing them and may have to help out with a duck hatch.
