Hands on hatching and help

Oh, Amy and Ru-uby.......do you see what's in today's egg basket with the other pullet eggs? YEP, not one but 2 Silkie eggs! One is from Smudge...not sure which one laid the other. :woot

Are you sure?

. Lol then yours sure are fast! So far I got my first 2 -4 days ago, I think? And I've had one from them each day. I know they've been from my black baby, Mystic.

Caught Smudge just coming off the nest with a confused look on her face and a warm egg right there. The other one I'm not so sure of, but the Silkies should be the only light colored egg layers I have. So I'm sure hoping........

Wow. Weren't mine already hatched before you set yours? Congrats btw!

My silkies took themselves in the coop to go to bed tonight for the first time ever!!! It only took how long? Every single night since they've been in the coop, I have had to pick them up and take them in. I was so excited to see them in there by themselves tonight. Maybe this drop in temp made them come to their senses.

Mine aren't that smart. 29 degrees last night and they still stayed in a puddle in front of the run door. I'm more heartless - if they ain't going in with the rest of them then they can just stay there!

That's what it was here I think dad said. I know it was still freezing when I went to open them up this morning and take the dog out. If I had a truly predator proof run, I'd be tempted to leave them out.

I'm sorry. It's hard to guess what happens under a broody sometimes. We usually just have to trust that they know best. I probably would not have made the call to take the egg, although in retrospect, that probably would have been the better decision. The only broody eggs I have messed with were ones that momma left, but I could tell were still alive. So I assisted. But if one doesn't hatch while she is sitting, then I figure more was wrong.

Good luck with the others, and please let us know how it goes!

Alright, so this is the final result, at least she has three to care for and us to love. :) Thanks again.
