Caught Smudge just coming off the nest with a confused look on her face and a warm egg right there. The other one I'm not so sure of, but the Silkies should be the only light colored egg layers I have. So I'm sure hoping........
Mine aren't that smart. 29 degrees last night and they still stayed in a puddle in front of the run door. I'm more heartless - if they ain't going in with the rest of them then they can just stay there!![]()
I'm sorry. It's hard to guess what happens under a broody sometimes. We usually just have to trust that they know best. I probably would not have made the call to take the egg, although in retrospect, that probably would have been the better decision. The only broody eggs I have messed with were ones that momma left, but I could tell were still alive. So I assisted. But if one doesn't hatch while she is sitting, then I figure more was wrong.
Good luck with the others, and please let us know how it goes!
Is that the meeting they were talking about on the NY thread the other day?
It is! You should come, it's really fun. The thread for it has gone up already. Not a lot of replies yet though. Hopefully it's a good turnout.
