LOL, file that Info. I will have to say I have hatched 100's and 100's of Dark black copper Maran eggs, never sanded, hatched in the same hatcher, same humidity as yellow buff, RIR, white leghorns, etc, etc and have had right at 100% hatch for eggs that go into lock down----maybe if I sanded those times I got 98 or 99% I could have gotten 100%???? Beginners Luck I guess?

Hi all, and hi to AmyLynn! I'm (kind of) your neighbor--live in Tupper Lake, not too far away!

So, I'm on my first hatch. Today is day 19...and the eggs are locked down at about 69% humidity in my Brinsea mini eco. The eggs were rocking today!!! I have 5 out of 12 shipped eggs that made it this far. All arrived beautifully packed but with detached or saddle shaped air cells. One of the eggs has a saddle that extends all the way down two sides...I'm not too hopeful for that one.

I incubated all standing up in cut out egg cartons and turned them at 45 degree angles. Only one left with a bit of movement to it, and i have it propped slightly up.

Any other suggestions? So...I look for a pip now? Humidity is so low now in my home that I'm afraid to open it up and the water inside seems to go down quickly, in a day or two. The vent is closed.

That's pretty good. Did you open the others or just toss them? I'd be curious as the effects that not turning had on the developers...or at least I think I would. Of course after opening a couple, I might have a change of heart. But I believe in absorbing knowledge when you can, so I would have had to try eggtopsies.

I do not recall doing a eggtopsy to those, but have done 100's of them since.

Welcome to the thread, and hi neighbor! I'm up past Watertown. I don't think I've been to Tupper Lake though I did go with friends when I was younger to the Adirondack region. Lived here my whole life and have yet to go to Boldt Castle, but it's on my list...lol

Sounds like you are right on top of things! You do want your vents open for hatch, other than that it sounds like you are in the same boat I am. I locked down yesterday. I had a pip yesterday evening, but the little guy is still just hanging out with his beak to the the hole. I have at least 5 internal pips and a couple that are either internally pipped or just getting some good pushes up into the air cell. I think it's the later, but it's a good start. I have one egg that is very worriesome and a couple that I'm not feeling the greatest about, but we'll see where it goes. I expect most of the hatchers will put their appearance in tomomarrow.

I had 6 more developing that were set the week after these guys, and one of them quit yesterday.

Oh well, it is what it is.

My very first botched hatch I did not do eggtopsies, and I always regretted it. After that I eggtopsies every quitter wether it was day 4 or after lockdown. Now I basically just do after lockdown quitters.

When giving nutri drench, how much do you administer and do you dilute it? The smallest measures on the bottle only give instructions for a 3lb. creature at 1ml. Thanks.

If I need to give it to a weak chick I give a drop or two directly. I also put a splash of it in their water.

Thanks, Pyxis. Also, if using the nutri drench do I also need the sav a chick? Today is day 19, everybody is being taken out of the turner to the floor of the bator which has a sterilized piece of rubber shelf liner. My two detatched cell Blue Isbar eggs are going into an egg carton, everyone else is going to be on their sides. The Isbars look awesome so I am very hopeful, the BCM's are what they are, thankfully the air sacs are expanding as far as I can see. Thank you so much for all the help, I will let you know how it goes, or doesn't go...

x2 on direct drops. And follow up with a few drops of clear water.

That's the great thing about little tidbits like that one - you can file it away, and then choose whether to pull it out or not! But it's handy to have around!

Pyxis, I just looked at your candling photos of the chick development day by day and I have a question. I noticed that you candled through the air sac end for all the photos, so on day 17, if you had looked through the pointy end of the egg, would you have seen any liquid substance at all or would it all be chick? Thanks for the article, excellent info.
